One of the most important skills to develop as a dancer, if you want to feel free in your improvisation, is your ability to internalise the beat of the song you're listening to. After just listening to a few bars of the song, you want to form an expectation or an anticipation of when the next beat will be and not lose track of that feeling while dancing.
In this video, Ali takes you through one of his favourite exercises that you can use to develop your ability to internalise the beat.
We also want to give a shout out to our friend An Duc Dang from Berlin who introduced us to this idea many years ago.
It's really easy for you to take advantage of our online program because it comes with our 100% money back guarantee so you can try it out risk-free. Also, our courses are follow-along videos with practice time, so you only need to press play and just enjoy the ride.

Lindy Hop is a Black American artform; knowing more about its cultural heritage will help you appreciate what you're learning so much more. Here are a few resources to get you started.
The History and Culture page on our website includes a series of short videos that give you an introduction into important topics in the history of Lindy Hop:

@@SwingStepTV I looked at the courses, but I can't cast them onto my TV screen using Chromecast. Without an easy way to cast the lesson and control it, it becomes cumbersome.

@@rich3419 Hey again, I checked with our IT expert; apparently using our courses with Chromecast should be supported on most modern browsers - as long as you can see your Chromecast device on your network it should work. (We did a test with a Chromecast 3.). Perhaps a browser update is needed? If you want to talk about this further, feel free to contact us at dance@swingstep.com :)

Is there a special drum loop app with such breaks? It would be really nice practicing on different BPMs

With audio software (GarageBand, Ableton, etc), and a little playing around, you could make your own. We also have prepared loops at different speeds over on our website; this clip is part of of our Musicality Training course. swingstep.com/courses/musicality-training
