We say “an” English professor in the states too. We would never say “a” English professor - it sounds wonky. I think this was a typo. 😊

A professor...a PhD in a university? Ok. If so, you're "an English" professor, and this young lady is perfect for "teaching" Portuguese because she already know how to speak it. Probably typos, eh? But to your first point, she well and truly is fantastic.

@@briancusworth Is English your mother tongue? It is quite challenging, but the key is being exposed enough to the language. Fluency comes with time, not over night, don't be discouraged and always look for ways to implement what you learn in the classes.

I am from Goa which was ruled by Portuguese until 1961. My parents did speak Portuguese and many families speak Portuguese here. That's why I was attracted to Portuguese language besides English.

These videos are priceless! Thank you so much! We're traveling to Portugal in a few weeks. I'll do my best. I've studied Spanish, French, and a little Italian. Portuguese is very challenging compared to the others. Maybe more so than French, but I hope to master basic greetings and phrases. Obligado!

Thank you for presenting the rules for using (or not using) the definite article with the names of countries. Now I understand how it works.

No problem! Actually, some grammars say that there is no fixed rule for using the prepositions with toponyms, so you can see for example: na África / em África, but for these introduced in the vídeo, we do know if we should/shouldn't use the article.

Thank you so much for these excellent videos that are helping me to learn Portuguese at age 63!! My Portuguese friend left Portugal to move to Canada when she was 9, so she said she was rusty on her Portuguese, but she's finding these videos helpful too. It's a treat to be able to practice what I've learnt with her. As an ex-teacher, I really appreciate the excellent presentation of each lesson with it written on the screen too. I'm also thankful for your very clear pronunciation so that I can hear it clearly & see where your tongue is etc for each sound. @@portuguesewithmaria I'm going in the order of your beginner level A1 lessons. So this week (week 9 of term 1 for Aussies) is lesson 9: numbers 101 - 1,000,000. Next week is another short week due to Easter holidays (Aussies have Easter Friday & Easter Monday holidays) so I'll be learning colours next week. Due to my illnesses including chronic fatigue I have a bit of a "teflon brain" so nothing sticks so I'm only doing 1 lesson per week & going slowly!!! Despite that I'm remembering more than I expected & I'm using flash cards to help myself. 🥰Blessings from South Australia💕🐨
