Hi my dear friend Lui, great to see your inventiveness and where you have researched the combinations from. I work away from Monday mornings until Thursday afternoons and enjoy recipe specific cocktails over the long weekends I have. However, by Sunday late evening I might have various fruits part zested, half squeezed, or remnants of say a pineapple. So I juice the whole plateful, if overly citrus add 15ml sugar syrup then either a good shot of rum or gin. If Rum, dependant on volume of juice I use a variety of ABV strength rums I have. That makes my nightcap before an early retirement to bed as I have to rise early on Mondays to drive away. The fruit forward drink is always delicious! Nick from York

educated winging it is how i invented this one drink for a friend. it was based on a fictional character so i had the presentation and color of the cocktail as an added constraint (it has to be layered, red on the bottom and blue on top, but basically i had the idea of gin, something blue (maybe blue curacao or infuse the gin with blueberries, and campari. especially the curacao and campari together since theyre both citrus. but i also recognized that this was a really bitter drink so i paired my sweetener to the aromatic and botanical gin and used honey syrup. i think with some tweaks it could be very good. unfortunately the only blue i had in my kitchen was blueberry schnapps which did nothing to impart blueberry flavor which i think would go well with the gin and honey) and instead gave it a "preservative" flavor. very bad. it looked great tho.

Hahahaha sometimes educated winging it you got 75% there and then hit a dead end. It's unfortunate but also you can learn a lot by doing so. Learning new flavor pairings

0:06 You don't. You just have to try. If you're new to cocktails, read books and try their recipes. Try the ingredients alone, and figure out the role of each ingredient in your favorite cocktail. Next, start simple by buying a small amount of liquors (around 9 bottles). You should then try combining these bottles with various fruit juices and sodas (cheap) to get a better sense of mixology. After that, try some classics like a Negroni, a Manhattan, an Old Fashioned, and a (2:1, gin) Martini.

Nice...I'm glad I'm just a home bartender, making original cocktails for myself, some are good...some not so much lol. When watching and listening to you, it's obvious I don't have a clue, but am having fun. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

OMG! Just watched this now, but used method number 2, without even realizing it. I made a Negroni, but infused the Campari with cracked black pepper and strawberries. So good!

Hi Lui, new sub here. Just finished watching the basics series and absolutely loved it. Going to order some equipment tomorrow too! Just thought I would have loved some little things more maybe like detailed using of instruments and practicing them, managing the bar for clean/used, trash, counter discipline and accessibility etc. Also liquor. As in not just brands, details about rum in general and the cocktails it makes, gin, vodka, brandy, whisk-- you get me lol

Lui! Excelente vídeo!! When I first followed your caipirinha recipe I very much enjoyed the original drink. My friend made some mint... infusion of some sort (everclear and home-grown mint) I added a “splash” to my caipirinha and it was delicious!!! But I still follow the recipe as I originally learned it here 👍🏻 - Dave

0:14 This method typically doesn't create "new" cocktails unless the substitutions are radical. 1:35 While technically new, this isn't creative or interesting.
