What do you do when you lose your place? Sometimes I forget to replace my stitch marker at the beginning of the round. How do you tell where the round begins without a marker?
@LittleCrochetFarm
@LittleCrochetFarm 2 жыл бұрын
@@JsMomma7 If this happened in the rounds where you are working increases, you can find it easily. Just go back and find the last stitch with the increases. But if this happens in the rounds with only repetitions, it's more likely to find an approximate stitch. But to explain this better, I need a video for visualizing. It's hard to explain to you in words how you can find it. I will add this in a topic for a video. Thank you for your question!

I use the 4th method…it looks the best. The only thing is if you’re only doing one row and then changing again, it causes a bit of warping so I don’t recommend it in those situations 😄

You did such a good job explaining the different methods - I watched it basically because I was crocheting and wanted some background accompaniment XD but you actually made me stop and listen because I typically roll my eyes at how complicated many content creators make this seem... I'm guessing you've helped A LOT of newbies with this video!

Purpose of the third example is to create cleaner line between egdes of colors not an invisivble color change. The third example with the last example will give us the best result, there will be cleaner line between colors and no jump on change, but is the worst in case of effort. And the second one is the best ;)
@LittleCrochetFarm
@LittleCrochetFarm 2 жыл бұрын
Yes! Great pointed out! Although it is a technique that many crocheters use as an "invisible color change" because of this cleaner line between the colors you mentioned! And is good to use for some effects I suppose! But combining the third and last, OMG, that is an effort for perfectionists! LOL

Thanks for the video, it is very helpful! I am obsessed with learning new color changing techniques and I agree with you: the 2nd one is the best cost-effective. But I confess that I love the 3rd one. I don't use it as a color change technique per se. Making stitches of two colors allows you to get a complete separation of them, with the old color not invading the new one. This is great for example when starting the outfit on an amigurumi body. You can associate it with technique 2 and the result will be even better!
@LittleCrochetFarm
@LittleCrochetFarm Жыл бұрын
Yeasts totally agree with you about the third method! Great point! I use a different technique for separating a pants from shirt for example, I change the color and make one round with blsl, and next round I work the SC on back loop. This leaves a "line" separating one part from another (like pants and shirt for example). Thank you for being here with me! 💕

I love the 4th technique which I'm using all the time, but I've come across a pattern I'm not sure how to handle. The first row of the colour change calls for crocheting BLO, so how do you handle that first stitch of the colour change? Would you do BLO before and after the Ch 1?

Thank you for the very helpful info! I would like to see if you have any tricks with counting rows. I’ve been using scrap yarn that I weave in & out as I go. But I’m always confused on counting. My logic says every alternate yarn I see is 2 rows (due to the weaving) I’m just not sure that it’s right. If you have other methods of counting rows, I’d really appreciate seeing them!
@LittleCrochetFarm
@LittleCrochetFarm 2 жыл бұрын
Oh I will make a video on that. Showing where are the rows and stitches and how to count them! I don't like much of waving a yarn as I go because, depending of the yarn I use, it was leaving some left over colors. The best way for me is to train the eyes to find the rows, and there is a trick to do that! I will add on my videos to shoot! Thank you for your suggestion! By the way, your logic about the alternating yarn being 2 rows, is correct!
@cathymartin3379

I have another question - can you also start the new colour a few stitches behind where you ended the first or does it compromise a anything? The reason I'm asking is because im working on an a amigurumi 😂piece with rings of colour and don't want the change to eventually end up on the front. If I'm jumping a few stitches as you do each time, it will eventually make its way to the front.
@cathymartin3379

Thank you for this video, I have watched wo many different ones and I think your favourite will be the easiest for me. I am very new to crochet and amigurumi (also left handed) teaching myself by videos. One thing you didn't address in your favourite is what you do with the first colour after the change, is it cut and the end worked in or another method? Sorry if it's obvious to some, rookie here lol. Thanks.
@LittleCrochetFarm
@LittleCrochetFarm 2 жыл бұрын
All the questions are very welcome Cathy! The yarn's tail remains inside the toy after the color changes. So, because nobody will see it, I just tie a simple knot with the two ends of the yarn. It is simple, easy and secure way to make sure that the new color and the old color will know unravel or get a bit loose with time! Of course, if you are crocheting a detail that would be seen on the wrong side of the crochet, you wouldn't use this technique. But for amigurumi, I always do like that!
@amyl.1947
@amyl.1947 2 жыл бұрын
This is very helpful! Thanks! My question is: do you need to yarn over the yarn tail in the 2nd technique? I saw she did it the 1st one at 1:58 but none of the others.
@LittleCrochetFarm
@LittleCrochetFarm 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Amy! Good observation! For amigurumi, I like better to tight a knot in the new colors, since it will be inside of the toy. But as I crochet so many things, sometimes I just yarn over the tail while changing colors, because its more practical and its basically done once you crochet a couple of stitches and you can cut your thread! Either way is good choice!

Thank you so much for this! I love the second one ❤. One question though. When crocheting from some pattern, does the slip stich round count as one round of sc? Or I shouldn't count it as a round? And what if the round I want to change color in, requires increases?
@LittleCrochetFarm
@LittleCrochetFarm Жыл бұрын
I am not sure if I understand your question. A round of slip stitch count as a round of slip stitch. But if you mean if the slip stitch count as a stitch, then yes. You only substitute the first single crochet for a slip stitch. And for the next round, you make single crochet nornaly. You don't have to do increases because you haven't change the amount of stitches. You only make a sl instead of a SC.

Oh my gosh, that slip stitch is awesome, thank you so much! Does it work if we’re changing colors multiple times in the same round?
@LittleCrochetFarm
@LittleCrochetFarm Жыл бұрын
Yes it will! Maybe if you are changing the colors in every round, you will need to move your starting stitch to one stich ahead. So you don't make one slip stitch above the previous one!

What do you do with the tail from the new colour after you change in the 4th (best) method? Do you crochet over it for the first few stitches to secure it?
@LittleCrochetFarm

You can do that or, make a simple knot. I like to just give it a tight knot since these will be inside of the amigurumi and nobody will see it 🥰

Hey This video is really helpful but I have a question For the second method when we slip stitch and add a single crochet at the end of the round will the stitch count change like will there be an additional stitch Thank you
@LittleCrochetFarm
@LittleCrochetFarm Жыл бұрын
Hey! Ok, let us go slow and clarify the second method. You will not add a single crochet! You will start the round with a slip stitch, so, you substitute the first single crochet for a slip stitch. Once you arrive at the end of the round and start the next round, you are back working only with a single crochet. So, on top of the slip stitch you worked previously, you will work a single crochet! I hope this explanation can help! ❤️

My biggest issue with amigurumi is using yarn unders. I'm a yarn over fanatic, but I've seen yarn unders with tighter stitches. I dunno if it's better to yarn under before pulling the loop thru the stitch and finishing the SC with another yarn under or finish with a yarn over???
@LittleCrochetFarm
@LittleCrochetFarm 8 ай бұрын
I use yarn under for very specific projects. My stitch tension is already tight and, my toys tend to get very stiff if working with yarn under. It might look very neat but, I don't like how it feels. But, when crocheting with yarn under, if that's your preference, just work normally everything, even finishing, but grabbing the yarn under the needle. Nothing changes much generally speaking in the way of crocheting things. You can do half of the stitch with yarn under, and finishing the stitch with yarn over but, really, just adapt to your preference and tension. And how your finished stitch will look like! I hope this helps!

I cut and give a simple, but very tight, knot. It will be facing inside the toy so, it doesn't matter if it "looks good" 💞

@LittleCrochetFarm
@LittleCrochetFarm Жыл бұрын
The difference for the double crochet might be more visible in some of these techniques. I would suggest the last option for double crochet, starting with 2 chains of the new color (and counting that as one stitch).

I would like to try the second one but I'm not sure I understood everything (sorry, English is not my mother tongue). With the new color, you make one slip stich, and then, every stiches you make are single crochet ? So, all you have to do is one slip stiches and there you just continue normally ?
@LittleCrochetFarm
@LittleCrochetFarm Жыл бұрын
Hey! Sorry for late response! But yes that is exactly it! You start with a slip stitch in the first stitch, and then continue working normally. Once you finish the round and start the new one, on top of the slip stitch you make a single crochet normally like you would!

Somehow doing your favorite way. I lose the count over and over, can you tell me why.
@LittleCrochetFarm
@LittleCrochetFarm Жыл бұрын
The trick here is to get used to counting the slip stitch as a normal stitch from the round. You just substitute the first single crochet of the round for a slip stitch and move on. When you complete the round and arrive at the first stitch of the round, (which is the slip stitch), then you make single crochet normally as you would. Ah, also, use a stitch marker always! I hope this helps!

How do you change colours on rounds that involves decreases or increases? No one will tell me how! :( any help is appreciated.
@roxi6380
@roxi6380 9 ай бұрын
You just do the same thing, but with increases/decreases. The 4th one would probably be the best for that because it doesn't involve a slip stitch, which would mess up the stitch count.
@roxi6380
@roxi6380 9 ай бұрын
Or, for the 2nd one, ignore the slip stitch and treat it as a stitch between rounds (finish the row, make the slip stitch, start the row)

Actually the 3rd method is not for the vertical imperfection it is for the horizontal if you look closely you can see the other colours stitches interrupt in the previous row it is more clear if you use chunky yarn.... great tutorial though 👏👏👍👍
@LittleCrochetFarm
@LittleCrochetFarm Жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree that also helps with vertical imperfections. But, I would say that for vertical color changes, what helps the best is to work with the single crochet grabbing the yarn under the needle instead of over the needle. But I don't have a tutorial about this yet... ❤️

I make sure they are tied up and secure, then stuff them in to the project (kinda as extra stuffing)
@susangibson9123
@susangibson9123 3 ай бұрын
Just make sure they’re on the inside. Pull them through with your hook to do this. You can just leave them in there. If they’re very long trim them to a couple of inches. That’s all you do. You can also thread them through a few stitches on the inside if you want them secure. You need to keep the tails a little longer to do this. Trim when finished threading.
