Overall I like flat melt but sometimes I think standard looks better for some projects

Can you iron just one side?

@@appletons2558 Yep! If you use the flat melt on one side, it should mostly keep it together if you’re delicate with it. I recommend doing a very light iron on the opposite side though unless you plan on gluing it to some cork or some paper, just in case. One fall from a weird angle might break off a piece or two.

I thought to try because I saw someone making canvas-like work by arranging them in a glass pan, then putting them in the oven. The 400F came from another project where a person used the oven to make rounded charms for jewelry. Works really well for that 😅

Great question! Is it doable? Yes. There is one concern with that though. When you iron a side, it tends to curl up (which is why you should place a heavy object on it). Some might say that you’d want to iron both sides while it’s still “fresh” so that the curling balances out. It’s not the biggest thing in the world, especially if you’re going to glue your creation down to something. All in all, I think it’s totally fine, but I haven’t done extensive testing. I hope that helps!

That’s a great question! I’ll be working on a video in the near future on what some options are but in a nutshell: If you are just displaying your creation and it won’t be stressed or bent, you can theoretically flat melt one side and leave the other side unmelted. If you wanted a little more sturdiness and it’ll be exposed to the outside world, I would flat melt a side first and then lightly melt the back side. If you flat melt both sides, you run the risk of some bead explosions since there’s less air for the heat to travel through. I’d say experiment with a design you don’t care much about first and see what ya like!

You definitely need some sort of ironing paper! If you don't have the ironing paper that comes with a set, parchment paper works better than wax paper if that helps. I don't think printer paper or writing paper would work.

@@aesthxtically I know some people literally throw them in the oven and melt them that way, but I have absolutely ZERO experience with that, so I can’t offer any advice unfortunately. Maybe you can tape your creations and set them aside until you’re able to get your hands on some parchment paper in the meantime?

It could be that it’s too hot weirdly enough. Make sure you’re moving the iron around almost at all times to make sure the heat is distributed evenly. The lower your heat setting, the more control you have over how the beads melt. I’d say start at a medium heat for a standard iron and rotate it on your piece for about 30 seconds and see where you might need to touch up. The corners and sides especially need a little more attention and “spot-ironing” after your 30 seconds are done. When you think you’re done, try lifting up the paper and get a good look at the beads. If they’re melted to your liking, you can let them cool and then flip them over. If not, throw the paper back on and iron a little more until you’re satisfied. Hope that helps!

That’s a really good question! I haven’t tried anything 3D just yet, but I imagine you’d want to iron both sides lightly. The flat melt might distort your beads a little too much and might make it hard to lock in with one another if that makes sense. If possible, try ironing a few small examples to see what works best for you and your purposes!

Honestly, it depends on your iron and preference. The best way to figure out what works best for you is to experiment and learn over time. I suggest starting with low heats until you get a good feel, and then experiment by raising the heat just a bit each time. Different sized projects will also need different heats, so it’s kind of different every time. You got this!

Yep! So what’s happening is that your iron’s heat is also transferring to the pegboard, making it warp. One way to avoid that is by ironing off the pegboard using the tape method to take it off the pegboard once you finish and iron it on a different surface. I have a video showing the whole process of ya wanna check it out! 🫡

Great question! It depends on the size of the creation and how much of a melt you decided to do. It might range from 5-10 minutes for the most part. The BEST way to determine how long to leave it is this: If the paper has completely come unstuck from the piece naturally, it's done! If you need to pull or peel the paper off of the piece, the paper should stay on, and the heavy object should stay on. I hope that helps!

Heya, so I originally got the 22,000 bead bucket that has 22 different colors. Stores like Amazon, Michael’s, and JOANN’s might have some colors, but your best bet is to probably grab some 1000 bead packs from the Perler website. I think they have a 30% off sale going on right now. Let me know if you still need more help finding specific colors though!

@@luiscarlos-mn5rk I have a video using the tape method that I recommend. If you iron your beads while they're still on the pegboard, you run the risk of the heat warping your pegboard. Either way, you iron it once on the front side, flip it over, and iron the back side once with ironing paper (total of two times) if that's what you're deciding to do. There are some things you might want to just iron the one side, like for a coaster for example. If you iron it on both sides, it will be sturdier though. I hope that helps!

The key to minimize errors for me is moving it slowly. I’ve found that keeping your iron pressed down will heat and melt the beads too fast, and even melt them to the paper sometimes! Still, you should do whatever works for you! 😎 Thanks for chiming in!
