Also had a jack stand fail with my Boxster. Right rear slipped and crushed one of the coolant pipes. Two days work to remove and replace the pipe! Qickjacks or a scissor lift are definitely a better option! Thanks for your cautionary tale!

Couple thoughts: 1] Use 1x4, 2x4 or plywood square on jack pad to prevent dents / scars to underbody & reduce starting rust; 2] Use flat top jack stands with wood scraps or those type jack stands with 3" wood rounds with 1side flat toward underbody or 2x2 scraps. Saves storage space & cost of expensive Qjack wth limited lift height. Periodically replace soft wood scraps.

Hi , about jacking up in front if your car is lowered... drive the car on some wood so you can access the reinforced spot. also you can by special Porsche Jack pucks for small bucks, they sit firmly on the OEM jack points

I have similar jack stands and have never liked them, There may be a quick jack in my future, although a 2 post lift would be the cat's arse.

Could you not use the support beams instead for the quick jacks? Excellent tutorial btw! All of them are top notch. (I have also a 986 but also use EZ-lift.)

I probably could, but this way works fine and they are out of the way (not as far under the car)

thanks for the video! when you lifted the car from the back, I think you had the piece of wood on the wrong side of the tire. Maybe the wood should have been behind the tire and not in front(?). You can clearly see the car roll back when you lifted it. Subsequently, the wheels rolled forward when you lowered the car, causing the jack stand to miss the center of the jack point. So I learned a lot from this video. Thank you again. Your videos are great.

How about using old steel wheels as jack stands... one under each wheel, then the car is supported on the wheels inside the concave structure of the wheel. I'm guessing that would not slide at all. I'm considering/proposing this as I'm uncomfortable under Jack Stands, and I have no flat surfaces near me other than my small garage floor. I see this as both economical and practical for small spaces as well as - my big hope, very, very safe. Have you tried or considered this?

+rfpriddy1951 seems like it would probably work, but the biggest problem would be that you can’t take the wheels off the car that way… which I usually want to do when jacking up the car.

I'm specifically thinking for oil changes, when I need to be fully under the car. I'f I'm not under the car, I'm completely comfortable with my regular jack stands...But, again, safety is my big question, and I'm assuming steel wheels would be very strong. @@HelpMeDIY

Do you have a video to resync a Porsche Boxster 986 fob key. Light on key illuminates but I can't get the key to automatically open and close my boxster. Many thanks Conrad (UK based).

make sure you check your wheel chock's under the front wheels once you have jacked up the rear and move them back in place if the car has moved backwards (as it will), place the axle stand under the car under the mounting point then you can start to slowly lower the trolley jack. You will still need to keep and eye on the position of the axle stand and move it as necessary so that it lands in the correct position. You will need to do this because although trolley jacks have wheels to move back and forth as the angle of the car is altered, however they rarely move as they should and you will find the front wheels will move instead. So please remember to move you wheel chocks into position before you lower the car, check the location of the axle stand and the front wheel chocks as you slowly lower the car. Before you remove the trolley jack full make sure that both you axle stand and your wheel chocks are correctly positioned and that the car will not move.

Is it just me, or does the support beam where you say to place the jack look like its cracked? At 3:09 of the video, maybe 2 inches to the left of where your finger is touching. It looks like its cracked across the beam and propagates up the side of the beam, diagonally up and to the right?

+george louie I see what you’re talking about. Looks like it’s kind of a cover welded on there. I’ll have to have a closer look and compare it to the other side next time I have it lifted.

That quick lift looks awesome, but for what I'm guessing it must cost, it was probably either boxster + quick lift or 911 + jack stands.

I just bought a second standard jack for 1/10th the price so I can put both jack stands in place at once. Had to anyway as one old hydraulic jack had a slow leak so could only be used for short lifts. Like the Qjack but it also blocks a lot of access from the side which can be helpful for some projects.

So others are binge watching movies. Guess what I am binge watching? Done all of the work on my car for the 20 years of ownership. It is generally a good car for DIY. Actually designed for mechanics to work on it. Not as true for the more recent models. Query: at 4:30, you depict at the extreme left side of the video two aluminum panels. It looks like two bolts are missing. Notably when you lift the car, you can see the right panel moving relative to the left one. I know that several of the aluminum panels under the car are structural. In fact, I have seen reinforcement pieces sold for racing purposes (or barstool ponces). NOt sure I have seen that view before - but I wonder if the bolts were installed, would the panels stay secure?

You could just get a second jack. I can't believe I just watched a how to video where the person put the weight of the car down on one outside jack point. Should have been titled how to not jack up your boxter.

It’s exactly how you’re supposed to do it. You’re suggesting using two jacks and getting under the car without jack stands? Absolutely unsafe and should never be done.

@@HelpMeDIY you can use 2 jacks.. if you have car specific "Jack Pucks" or what you may call them , so the jack won't slip .. and... you need lower the jack on something, so you won't have the pressure on the Hydraulics. but I do this just out of contingency in addition to jackstands
