@@davidlocharysmustache2471 Me too! There are a bunch of Smiths songs uploaded to KZfaq without vocals, and I typically enjoy them much better than with Morrissey singing. That said, there are songs of theirs that I think benefit from him… but most of the time I enjoy just the music better. “Some Girls are Bigger Than Others” is a prime example

@@skaldlouiscyphre2453 'Kinda like' doesn't mean ripping off. Lou Barlow, Hüsker Dü, Thunderbolt, Death From Above 1979, The Beastie Boys 'Sabotage' there's a couple who do it in a typically overdriven way .. However, I was thinking more along the line of using chords on a bass to create a thick layer for clean leads to settle upon .. Utilizing it more typically like a bass at times and then using it like a rhythm guitar higher up the neck during solos or intense measures?

I spoke to Mitch Easter once about what exactly people are "hearing" when they talk about "jangle". He couldn't really tell me because everyone has a different idea about what they're hearing, but he was kind enough to break down all the elements so that I could see what each thing does. My conclusion was that the doubling of the electric parts with a 6-string acoustic guitar, at least to me, was the biggest factor.

this is really well done. one thing is that i remember from a jhonny marr interview, he says that his actual "the smiths sound" guitar is a gibson les paul with coil tap in it. he uses that a lot and when he needs to do session works and somebody wants that smiths-like vibe he just grabs that guitar, not a tele or jaguar. it makes sense, i think JM's sound has a bit more sustain and less snap that it actually sounds if you listen to some of the recordings.
@ubellubo
@ubellubo 8 ай бұрын
Johnny Marr used a few guitars when he was in the Smiths. So it is true he did use a Les Paul for some songs (especially on the album The Queen is Dead) but the that really jangly sound you hear on This Charming Man for example is a Rickenbacker with the guitar line double-tracked by a Telecaster. Johnny Marr used to play a Les Paul as his main guitar before he formed the Smiths but on the first album he said he wanted to get away from a traditional rock or blues sound, so he went for the more jangly Rickenbacker over the Les Paul. It's funny how now Johnny Marr is so strongly associated with the Jaguar, but he didn't start playing that guitar until he joined Modest Mouse in the 2000s. But he still plays the Jag as his main guitar to this day.
