I am so pleased I found this. I was right in the dog house after cutting the telephone wire instead of a defunct alarm wire. Mrs going crazy cause she can't watch Netflix. Got some Jelly crimps and the crimping tool, fixed in ten minutes. You sir are a legend !

You are my hero! Removed an ‘old cable’ to prep a skirting board for painting and quickly realised it was supplying the broadband 🤦♀️ Jelly crimps are the best! Thank you!!

Wired everything up right but still had no internet, until you mentioned using pliers to push the crimps home. Thank you, that saved me a few bob. 👍🏽

Can you use small wagos, or are they too big in diameter?

Thanks for the video. I didn't have any of the clamps so I just stripped the wires and twisted them together and covered with electric tape. Somehow my internet is stronger now!!

Do you have to have same colours in both wires when joining two cables.
@charlesmilligan14163 жыл бұрын
Hi mate don't suppose you can help... In the back of my socket I have blue in a and blue/white in B. Further along these have been joined at a box, but the other cable going back to (I presume) the cabinet, is orange and white cables...

Can i use this to extend the telephone {black cable}, is it enters the House {in UK}? Also, should the Router be plugged into the Master or secondary ~ or does it not matter?? Thanks, Chris

If I have removed an extra phone jack from a bedroom but no longer require it what should I do with the wire ? Leave it in the wall once the face is off ? Or wrap it in electricians tape ?
@smartaerials5 жыл бұрын
You can leave it in there providing that no conductive parts are touching each other.

Superb video what do you recommend outside use there's a line I need to join 👍
@smartaerials5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Adam, if it's outside I would join the cables using the jelly crimp method and then place this join in a junction box suitable for an outside environment. Please subscribe to our channel. Tom

I noticed you didn't strip the individual coloured wires back to the metal before putting them in the jelly crimp, is that not necessary?
@smartaerials2 жыл бұрын
Hi Phil, Not not necessary as when you punch the cable down it makes a small incision to the inner core.

Uk BT or Openreach lines generally carry 50v DC.

I have a question regarding my telephone line length being artificially longer (around 10 meters or so) from the intrusion point. I was thinking of having it shortened as I feel it is too long and may affect performance+reliability of my broadband. Do you think a reduction of 5-10 meters of copper length to the telephone master socket would make any difference to broadband performance such as noise margins? If I was 100% certain that my 10 meter length of copper cabling didn't have any negative impact on performance/reliability then I probably wouldn't need to install a new telephone line to have it shorter. I could try and cut it myself manually to reduce the length, but I am worried to do that as I am not a professional and could end up accidentally breaking it unless an Openreach engineer could do it manually. But I don't think they would do this for free hence why I was thinking of a new line to see if there would be noticeable improvement in speeds/reliability. Also I have this BT junction box exactly like in this video. I'm willing to follow this guide, is this junction box necessary? Can I get rid off it completely and just connect the line to the BT master socket?

Can I split (divide / share.. I don't know which is more correct!) my incoming phone line into 2 lines, to connect each to a separate router? If yes, how please .. Thanks a lot ....

So is it alright for me to use that kind of jelly connector (3 way) to connect only two telephone wires?
@smartaerials4 жыл бұрын
Yes that's fine, you will just have one spare on the jelly crimp - doesn't matter.
@worthlessone9503 Жыл бұрын
doesn't having them untwisted now hurt the signal quality?

No

yes its called far-end cross talk but is minimal and not really noticeable for a single household that doesnt use all that much bandwidth

Can you remove jelly crimps without cutting the wire?
@smartaerials4 жыл бұрын
No I'm afraid not.
@meatfruit11233 жыл бұрын
Yes you can....just apply pressure with your crimping pliers (the tool he uses) to the side of the crimp (jelly connector)instead . Squeeze slowly and it will pop open, just watch your eyes as the top can pop out quick
@louiselindsay22965 жыл бұрын
What do you cease jelly connectors into Do you connect second cable to other side of junction box. You didn't show this. Otherwise learnt a lot.
@smartaerials5 жыл бұрын
Hi Louise, glad the video helped. Sorry I do not understand what "cease jelly connectors into" means? Yes on the junction box, the second cable can be terminated into the other side of the junction box. Needs to be the same corresponding number for each cable. Or you can patch the cable straight on top of the other one on the same side of the junction box.

the quality of the video is terrible, it's "out of focus & distorted" and the camera is up far too high, and parts of the assembly were NOT shown?? i recommend you to re-do the video and CHECK IT BEFORE you post it, as it is IMPOSSIBLE to view??
