Do you have a bird problem? Have you tried of or heard of any other ways to keep nuisance birds away (without killing them)?

it's nesting season and birds are territorial and will exhaust themselves attacking their reflection (competition for their new nest site) instead of foraging for food needed for a successful clutch of eggs. Use window screen covering entire window. patterned gift wrap paper taped against the inside glass to break up their image. non-reflective tint that is applied to outside of window. Drapes don't work as they are too far from the glass to stop reflection. After your treatment, hold your hand 2 feet away from the window... if it's hard to see your hand, you'll stop the tapping.

We've had the same cardinal pecking at our windows (ALL OF THEM), since late March.. its now end of October, and nesting season is well past. He pecks from sunrise to sunset, hourly. I've tried closing curtains. I've tried foil. I've tried rubber snakes. I've tried relocating bird feeders closer to the windows, hoping other birds would distract him or make it hard to peck the windows. NONE OF THESE WORKED. (He already pecks at windows with screens so the line idea won't work either.) What DOES WORK every time is placing large photos (5x7 or larger) of human faces on the window. School picture are perfect. But for us, the pics have to stay up because Big Red checks hourly. I used painters tape. (Make copies of the pics in case of moisture.) We're hoping he won't return next year.

Many of the solutions I've seen involve hanging something outside the window. But where I live it is very windy and anything I hang outside, the wind is going to blow and bang it against my window which is just as bad or actually worse than the bird tapping noise. Any other ideas? I was going to try the yellow marker but am afraid it won't wash off easily.

I have heard of people hanging white thin streamers (like balloon ribbon) hanging down the length of the window. When it blows, it doesn’t make a noise. Just a thought.

I haven't tried this yet, but perhaps a light that triggers with movement?

That sounds like a great idea. The tanagers have not returned but now we’ve got a male and female cardinal that visit every morning. I may try that. Thanks for the tip and thanks so much for watching!
