LOL..... AB would have made a fine actor. He puts so much passion and gusto in his characterizations of burglars, ducks, chickens, donkeys. He’s truly an amazing human being.

The world we are living in right now would benefit immensely from a talk like this made mandatory every day for everyone, Especially the stories about the tree and the thief. Today it's take take take, all about me.

"Giving is the heartwood of inner happiness". It's quite a tricky act to perform in this day and age but nonetheless a worthwhile one.😊 Thank you for this inspirational talk! 💗🙏

Nevertheless, this talk as usual helped me a lot. I've been vacillating between helping my friend, offering him a place to stay, food to eat, etc. and not helping him because I feel unappreciated or unrewarded by my acts of so-called "kindness". Now I know what I need to do -- give, and keep on giving, like that apple tree. Am I able to? Yes!

If you would like a copy, its called "the giving tree" its a pretty common story in america as he said, and i keep it as a coffee-table book www.amazon.com/The-Giving-Tree-Childrens-Hardcover/dp/B0042SWVLC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1402441308&sr=8-2&keywords=the+giving+tree

Follow up: forgive me Ajahn but I couldn't do it. After a year of helping my friend, I decided to kick him out of my house. I was worn out. I could not take his drug addiction any longer. I gave and gave, he took and took and kept taking. I thought I was helping him but I wasn't. I'll spare you the details of what transpired but all the stories that one hears about people who are addicted to drugs are true. I experienced it all. Even as I turn away from helping my friend, my heart is breaking. For I know it will take a miracle to pull himself out of the gutter that he has chosen to live his life in. I must turn my back on you to take care of me. Forgive me friend.

My brother actually exploited my parents and me like this. I on the other hand just gave to parents my unconditional help by caring for the boy on my own, since I was seven years old.

It's a story called "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein.Sort of famous in America. I definitely remember it as a kid, perhaps it's a little less known out there. It was probably taken out of the American edition because it's not Brahm's, or they were making space.

Unfortunately Ajahn Brahm knows this only at face value. In other words, he can be as much of a hypocritical bias junkie as a lay person.
