Thank you very much for this! The NewTek documentation gives so little info on how to properly use their tools. Your help is much appreciated!

This is awesome! Thanks. :) But NDI (NewTek) really should consider to implement NIC choose option.. :/

Agreed. It would be nice to have the option to force it. Would have to be per NDI complaint application though, as unlike Dante, its not Routed through a single drive like Dante is.

Hi Jon First of all thanks a lot for the great videos you are doing. I really appreciate that you share your huge knowledge with us. I was wondering what you are thinking about the NDI5 Audio direct. Could it really replace the Dante Network and its Audio-Mixers with just a DAW? Thanks a lot and cheers

From my thinking...if utilising 2 NICs i would prefer they are not on the same network in the first place this can cause Spanning tree loops and euin all network traffic. Instead i would prefer if considering segregation plug each NIC into a vlan capable Switch, and then "virtually" separating Dante and NDI/internet/other traffic that way. Having a seperate set of IP ranges and appropriate Layer 3 routing will alao allow you to control traffic across both VLAN segments, including blocking of specific ports if required. I avoid windows firewall at all costs and do in hardware (or prodominately in Virtual Sophos XG router sppliances actually...) You have definitely given me food for thought on using the Dual NICs in our vmix streamers though, because some testing tonight was getting a lot of poor audio and clicks and pops like you said...Not sure if it was NDI as we disabled that already...but could well have been any other network traffic, so gives a strong point for using seperate NICs for Dante regardless!

Thanks for the tutorial. Could the same be achieved on a switch level without messing with the Firewall? Some switch like Netgear AV line M4250 have some presets so that you can tell each port what kind of signal to expect (NDI, Dante, etc). Thanks for your valuable tips!

Thank you! But what if I have internet on the port on the motherboard for streaming and then a network card with 2 ports, 1 for Dante and 1 for NdI because we need to use static ip for the cameras. Do I still put Dante in public?

@streamingtech Thanks very much for this video and all of the other videos you've shared. Windows firewall - If I turn that off, is that off on the assumption that there are other firewalls protecting the network/machine? So in work at the office its a corporate network with managed firewall. At home, i'm on a normal virgin router running in "out of the box" mode as you mentioned in your earlier video. Just trying to workout if turning it off on the machine is going to cause me other security issues? Apologies, this is a bit of a lack of understanding on windows firewall capabilities as well as normal networking. TIA.

Hey Nick. Your windows firewall is a second line of defense, as you are already behind a firewall of sorts with your virgin router. The level of firewall protection your router offers is not the same as your corporate network. However its still going to stop all but the most determined. The ideal would be to run the virgin router in modem mode and have a more sophisticated router/firewall appliance protecting your entire network.

Hi, good vídeo, i am from Costa Rica, actually we use the both protocols in the same network ( Dante _ NDI ) and no have any issues, My questions si, why need to make a two independent net? Its better for dante? Or its better performance for the pc ? ( Sorry for My English) have a great day!
@Streamingtech
@Streamingtech 3 жыл бұрын
HI. They can both be on same network. If there are lots of ndi and Dante sources it is better to keep separate to eliminate interference. Normally this would show as pops and clicks on dante signals. But if it is working fine when all together don't change it :)

I think now you can select the Preferred NIC in NDI 5, the Acceess Manager provide this new feature in its Advanced settings.

That was simply the windows task manager, performance tab. So its was showing the net card usage only on that particular machine.

Great video!! When i try and make one of my ethernet ports private, it auto changes the other ethernet port to private, then the same to public.. The PC is making all 3x Network ports the same, either public or private, no seperation. Any ideas?

NDI version 5 has fixed all these issues. You can assign NDI 5 to use a specific NIC :) so just install ndi 5 on everything and in access manager assign the nic. If you are running vmix you need to update the dll file as they are still ndi 5. They have process which is realy easy in their knowledge base.

This works half great for me so far. Incoming NDI comes through my NDI adapter only, but NDI output (say output from vMix) still wants to go through my Dante network. If I enable the rule, it blocks NDI output on the Dante adapter, but doesn’t send out the NDI adapter either, so I have no output whatsoever. My device is still discoverable (I’m guessing because I am not blocking port 5353 which both NDI and Dante use for mDNS) but I get no signal.

Same here. Did you ever get help on this?
@Bluespower88
@Bluespower88 2 жыл бұрын
@@mrizzo9445 Nope. But NDI5 is supposed to help with this using Discovery servers and NIC selection in access manager. But I haven’t personally tested it yet, so I’m not entirely sure how effective and robust those tools are.

What about NDI and internet? If you feed internet from a router into a switch where all your NDI-connections are. Will there be conflicts? What is best practice to stay out of trouble?
@Streamingtech
@Streamingtech 3 жыл бұрын
Unlikely to cause an issue. Only Internet traffic that goes to on your network that would cause any issue could be large file uploads and downloads. And only at the a max data rate of your Internet speed. So if you had 100mbs down and 50mbs up the the max you would ever get in you network while downloading across all divices would be 100mbs and is a bit less than 1 typical NDI stream. If your on a 10gbs switch then realy no issue at all

@@Streamingtech Should the computers sending NDI to and from vmix ideally be on static IP or doesn`t it cause any conflict with internet? Thank you for your putting out great content on your channel. You are a very good communicator and obviously professional at what you do.
