How to keep raccoons and squirrels out of a deer feeder

Cows knocked over my deer feeder two years ago and I've been too busy to deal with it until this last week. The control module and motor had all the wires chewed off by rodents and the battery had been laying out on the ground ever since.
I replaced all the wires and soldered connections back onto the motor, replaced the funnel and fixed the spinner by grinding it flat and putting JB Weld over the holes. Doggone if the battery didn't still work like a charm! Kudos to Garrity rechargeable 6V batteries.
The lid required 12 hours of work because the initial silicone sealant I put on it never set. Beware GE Silicone sealant if it is anywhere near 1 year shelf life it may remain a nasty, sticky goo. I ended up using DAP clear indoor/outdoor sealant but had to drill out all the rivets I put in for the original fix.
Ended up working great and looking pretty danged good too.

I'll try to pin this reply to the top. The white poles are thin metal tubes (originally from an old above ground pool) that are tied to the top of the support poles with baling twine. This makes them roll when the raccoons try to climb them and they just stop trying. They've worked great so far, no critter damage to the spinner so far!

lol, thanks for the response. I have a raccoon spinning my corn feeder's broadcast wheel, while 4 of his friends and several ferrel hogs eat the corn off the ground. I had a cow spinning it with his tongue. Built a cage around the spinner but now the raccoon gets in the cage. I thought about rigging up a hot and ground wire around the legs of my corn feeder. Thanks again.

like the video, however you didn't explain how you hung the raccoon guards. That's a problem I'm trying to solve on mine. Could you elaborate on that?

I just tied them on with baling twine. The trick seems to be letting them twist freely.

Never saw a follow up on your feeder, but I have tried several type poles and covers, the Squirrels and coons will still climb up them you gotta put a cage arounf the spinner, a GOOID one.

I'd like to understand a little more about adding these pipes over your tripod legs. Is it meant to twist when raccoons try to climb it? If so, I assume I could just use pvc? Again never tried this but very interested in your actual usage success. Please advise. Thank you

The pipes work on my feeder. They twist freely. Pvc should work although I wonder if they could get their claws into it...

I'm certain a video just showing how this idea works "in detail" would result in a lot of views if titled correctly. Raccoons continue to damage feeder controls and steal corn from I'm certain thousands of feeders in Texas. I've seen this concept on past photos of other peoples feeders but never understood what the extra pipes were for. Thank for sharing.

Doesn't work as good as 4" PVC pipe, they can't hold on when it rolls. I have several years of experience and that's the cheapest and most effective way to keep coons off your feeder

step 1 - destroy deer feeder step 2 - destroy any other hunting and trapping apparatus step 3 - report game law violators and poachers (which is all hunters) to Wildlife and Fisheries and other regulatory agencies

1. You do know that hunting is not poaching when done during the proper seasons? 2. If you report any law violations, it will be your felonies that will get looked at. 1. First is criminal trespassing (it's criminal due to the fact you had intentions on committing a crime). 2. Criminal/ Wanton destruction of property. This is just for starters.

Go eat grass and twigs your hippy. No doubt you support abortion tho...I hope you dont reproduce. I got 2 daughters and they will only be allowed to marry real men. Me and my oldest son make sure of that.
