Ted, I admire you, your methods and most of all your Demeanor! I have a question on this method and that is IF you have a BAD to pull back horse and he pulls back to the sop and keeps thrashing, how has this helped?

As great as this video is, his nose was inadvertantly getting in the way of the camera shot when you were tying that knot on his end. Love your approach. I am big fan.

I've tied my horse just enough to teach him to stand tied but I trained him myself so he will stay put without being tied even if there are mares in season nearby. It took time and patience but it's a good thing if I need to take care of an emergency and don't have anything to tie him to.

Thank you so much! I’ve got a mare that will get spooked at the trailer and then feel confined once she pulls on it while being tied and realizes she can’t run from whatever spooked her. She’ll pull until something breaks and I desperately needed a way to tie her that she could back away if spooked. She only needs a little ways to back up and then “investigate” whatever it is that spooked her but when she tries to do that while tied she feels that halter tighten on her head and then pulls until she’s free. 🤦‍♀️

what if he just pulls to the length, then keeps pulling til it all breaks? My horse has learned he can break things, the rope, the halter, the snaps, etc. tried a special tie ring, he just pulls t the length then keeps going til he's loose. I'm also worried he will break his neck from thrashing back

But what happens when they get to the end of that? They are obviously going to keep pulling until they get away..?

Comments are so nuts. Makes me just crazy. Don't tie horse because barn can catch fire. ok, very sensible. And don't ride a horse because if we don't own a horse and never ride one....welll, then never need to tie one. See, is so sensible. And, obviously with the other comments....this is the sole video you have ever made that they stumbled across. "What are words for when no one listens anymore". :/

What happens if there is a fire and you can't get in to untie him? He needs to be able to break away in case of an emergency. You'll feel awfully bad if he can't break away and is stuck in the fire, huh?

Seems cruel to leave them tied up for half a day. What if he needs some water? Let them roam in their stall!

Horses are meant to be used....sometimes they are riden and sometimes they are tied....they are our servant not our slave....we water our horses frequently...thanks for you concern

It doesn't matter how frequently you fill up the water bucket if they are tied up all day and cant reach it. If they are not being ridden, groomed, or anything at all, they should be allowed to be free in their stall. Sure, being tied for 30 minutes while tacking up isn't an issue, but you stated they can be tied for hours on end. Cruel.

Dana S , the only one that's cruel is YOU! Your "cruel" remarks to this good-hearted, well-intentioned horseman had gone far enough that I can't ignore it w/o saying something about it anymore. I happen to LIVE in this farm and there's not one moment that I've ever seen any horses get anywhere near harmed. They DO NOT ever leave their horses tied for hours, and they don't just have stalls, but acres & acres of land they can roam around free like wild horses as a herd, right in our own back yard. Plus flourishing woods and creeks where riders would bring them to enjoy more of nature to its fullest. I don't know what's up your bottom, but I suggest you check yourself before you wreck yourself with your own negative mindset. If you know how to do things better, stop harassing this kind man & make your own educational videos! He creates these videos (that actually costs him a lot of money, I should know, I'm his videographer!) to help horse enthusiasts of all ages who can't afford expensive horsemanship lessons or go to equine college to learn for FREE. This man's knowledge is a collective well of experience, other's ideas & suggestions (which he is more than willing to listen & learn from as well) & lots & lots of reading, research & even scientific data, not to mention ancient wisdom that has been tested & proven. I will not stand for the likes of you to attempt to put this man down (although I know he is not the least bit shaken), but "I," as someone who has been helped & treated like family by Ted & his family, from the day I met them... just cannot bear seeing anyone talk smack about him & his farm, not even online. If this is how you talk & criticize a stranger, I feel sorry for your family & friends. I can't imagine you have much of them, or any quality in your relationships. Does it feel good to be judged "cruelly" by some stranger online now? Oh wait, you're just an internet troll. So I guess you have no feelings.

I am not saying that he is doing anything wrong, I am simply saying that it is unsafe for ANY horse to be tied up for half the day (as stated in his video). Being tied up for half the day without access to water is not safe. Being tied up and not being able to quickly escape in case of an emergency - not safe. If they need to be tied up for a short time for whatever reason, that's fine. Being tied up for half the day is not safe unless they have direct access to water and food is fine - didn't get that impression from the video. At the barn I ride at the horses are either outside in their paddocks or in their stalls. They are only tied up if being groomed, tacked up, or being tied up in the cross ties. They are never left tied up for more than 30 minutes. No horse should be left tied half the day. Period.

Dana S , there are times where we travel with these horses to conventions such as the Horse Progress Days or other mass educational/testing programs where these horses need to stay tied up outside of their trailers or a designated spot for a certain amount of time while they & their riders wait for the next assignment or what not (w/ timely, regular supervisions, watering, etc.). While a lot of other horses around us in the same environment get riled up & pulling back anxiously, ours stay calm & not even flinch even when different people walking by with equipment are nearby. If horses don't stay calm in these situations, things can get dangerous very fast as I have witnessed with other untrained horses AND the people around them. So you can't say this method is not useful in "any" situation for "any" horse. These are the instances that he's referring to when he's emphasizing horses not to pull back while being tied up. Keep in mind this particular video is one of his earlier videos & he is a human being who can possibly not have the right words at the right time while recording this particular video (which is why he is open to CONSTRUCTIVE criticisms), so certain terms are used to either fit a time constriction that might've been their issue at the time or whatever else. If you question something or if something he said doesn't make sense, then "ask," not go right on attacking the man with put downs & judgements.
