It's an everyday danger lurking inside your home: the oven. Every year, children are injured and killed when ovens tip over, but the incidents can be prevented by installing a simple anti-tip bracket. Home safety expert Brett Kaufman showed Inside Edition how easily an unsecured oven can tip when curious children climb on it. He pointed out that the oven door can become a step for kids to climb on so they can see what's going on. With a little added weight, the appliance can start to fall. #InsideEdition

One of my earliest memories is my dad spilling boiling water on himself while he was canning. He was transported by ambulance to the emergency room. It was not easy for a fully grown man and I can't imagine how much worse it would be for a kid to have boiling water poured on them. BTW my Dad is fine now. He's one of the strongest and most hardworking men on the planet. Even when it hurts him he makes sure his family has what we need/ed. I'm always happy when I can help him and my mom even though it's small.

My parents just taught me to believe the oven was always hot as a kid. I thought of it kind of like a gun. We we're supposed to act like it was always on so we didn't get burned. Kids get into everything, I know that. I've raised many niece's and cousins and I actually have one of my own on the way. Ive never had a problem with one of them climbing a freakin stove. Teach your kid some common sense and some boundaries and you won't have to worry about a stove falling on them.

I’m a teenager so I don’t have my own home yet but our oven (along with other appliances) is stuck to the wall. It’s been like that since my older siblings were younger my mum would always tell me not to go near it even when it was off too. My young niece comes round to our house sometimes she’s not old enough to crawl yet but once she is we’ll know she is safe!

So many things in our homes have always posed a danger to children for decades. It is up to the parents in the household to make sure that they give their children proper supervision. How many of us adults grew up and survived childhood. Did your parents have locks and anti tipping devices on everything in your house? I was almost crushed by a Panasonic 90s era tv when I was twelve. And literally not too long ago as a grown 27 year old I crouched down in front of the stove to pull out a pot roast. The pot roast was so hot that I slipped it on the top of the door of the oven as it was down and the whole oven almost swallowed me whole whole it was set at 450. Worst idea ever was setting it down on the door accidentally.

Inside Edition, I'm tired of your fear-mongering. This happened once with one kid. I have a three-year-old, and she's not a stupid kid, I yelled at her once to stay away from the stove. Who even let's the kids stands on the door of the oven? As kids they don't know if it's hot or not and they just climb on??

The other issue is if it’s a gas stove and it tips over won’t that break the gas line or pull the gas line out of wall causing a possible explosion? Or at least a gas leak? So for many reasons it would be a good idea to get this fixed. 😁👍

Honestly you don't need anti tip bracket unless you have a old stove these days the stove has a lock button that you press and hold.

I had the same experience when I sat on the oven door while it was on and it fell and almost crush my feet. I felt the top end of the oven just barely hit my ankle
