Here coileachs were frequently put in a creel - lobster creel - on a Saturday night. This reduced the space for the cockerel to stretch its neck and so kept it quiet. It would be let out a bit later on Sunday morning. This was so family and neighbours wouldn't be woken so early.

I bought a few of these. I have 3 various sized roosters. My large rooster hated it plus it made his neck feathers stick out and looked odd. My polish rooster went into a depression and would stand all day facing the wall. A few days later his bottom beak got caught in it. The instructions say that there should be enough room to put your pinkie finger in the gap. Id rather hear crowing that have depressed birds. Hi from the Scottish Highlands :-)

As an NPIP certified breeder of Sultans, Ayem Cemani, Silkies and Cochins I have to tell you this practice is fairly cruel. It prevents the rooster from doing his job. That crow is more than just a noise. It is a necessary call to warn predators in the area "I will f*ck you up if you mess with my girls" and to let the ladies know he is fertile. They actually lay less fertile eggs if a roo is wearing a crow collar.

In a RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD. I swear to God if I get the chance to catch one in the road I'ma floor it and send that m'fkr to alarm clock hell. I wish I knew who in the area thinks they get to decide when the whole neighborhood has to wake up.

Hey all, I'm in the burbs and have a roo that is a pain in the ain. 6.17 am he fires up. I fixed the problem good. I bought 12 hay bales and basically built a square hay igloo with a hay bale door that just gets pushed in place in the cavity I made as a door way. So it works like this, 6.17 am he crows 6.18 am I get up , catch him and place him in the igloo. This igloo works like a sound room, deadens the noise he makes, you can still hear him but greatly muffled. Oh yeah one other thing , try not to forget the little bugger in there all day. This is really only for the morning, when we humans are particularly sensitive to early painful wake up calls. Hope this helps.
@patrierdelyi29195 жыл бұрын
I used that exact collar. My roo tried to pull it off. He managed to hook one of his toes in it and couldn't get it out! He toppled backwards off his roost. Luckily he didn't get hurt- but if I wasn't watching him he would have spent the night in discomfort and maybe even been traumatized or died. This thing has to be very carefully fitted! It can't be too tight or too loose. I now have 3 roosters. I just keep them inside until 9 am. If anyone complains (to the town) I tell them that my property is legally grandfathered for my "chicken business" and I have a legal agreement with the town that states that my roosters can crow as much as they want after 9 am. I had to go to court to get the variance (cost nothing. I didn't hire a lawyer). The town didn't want to "fight" me and spend municipal dollars on court expenses so the town attorney sternly instructed the zoning dept to come to an agreement with me regarding a variance. The fact is, people get used to hearing roosters and many like it. As I said my roos are not let out into the yard until after 9- everybody has gone to work. And after the late afternoon roosters are pretty quiet unless there is a predator hanging around. I keep them in large dog crates inside. Believe it or not all my roosters come inside on their own. I don't have to chase them or catch them. I've trained them to want to come inside just to get a cup of special rooster food and blueberries. Any roosters that I can't train or that aren't "good" protectors I re-home. My roos sit quietly all night like fat kings on their throne. They can hear the hens and they only crow if there is some commotion. Some roosters have "annoying" crows and other roosters have a bell-like crow. I don't think it has anything to do with breeds or even genetics. It seems to be more the luck of the draw. Now for many years I had an Amazon parrot that was in a cage on my 2nd fl porch in the summer. He screamed all day. No rooster I've ever had was nearly as bad as my parrot! Not only would my parrot scream- if some kids yelled "shut-up stupid!" or "shut the hell up!" he'd screech "SHUT UP! SHUT UP!" I'm really glad roosters can't talk!

Right, but you can bet that neighbors will complain loudly about the rooster before they do the dog. They will also report without having the decency to talk to you. It happened to me. I was reported for having poultry on a lot that was, at the time, slightly too small. He claimed that I was housing roosters. I wasn't. The guy next door to him WAS. I had a handful of hens and live several houses down, so he likely never even heard an egg song from my girls. I agree that barking dogs are the bigger issue, but neighbors can get seriously petty over chickens.

I’m shocked that someone has actually thought of a way to keep roosters quiet. I grew up in Romania and I can’t imagine a rural house with no roosters. Rooster crows are the definition of rural life. My grandma used to have two roosters every year (if you keep more, they’ll be in a fight all day and hurt one another). Whenever I was going on holiday, yes I could hear them early in the morning, but it wasn’t unbearable, and to complain would have been pointless anyway because that’s nature, all the houses had roosters and the idea of a no crow collar would not have crossed anyone’s mind. Plus, after two or three days, you get so used to them you actually don’t wake up anymore. Or you hear them but you just ignore them and continue to sleep.
@soaringspirits226710 ай бұрын
People here around cities aren't used to it sometimes, so when they go from hearing nothing, to the birds being pretty loud, it tends to bother them, and gets chalked up as a town disturbance, and therefore you can be fined for having them.

Where did you find them for 2 or 3$ I've only found them on Amazon for 20$ and up
@nunyabiznis8176 жыл бұрын
That's because Amazon sellers sell a lot of stuff that is marked up heavily to make up for that "free shipping" and also because there are a lot of suckers who shop on Amazon that think that everything in Amazon is the lowest price.

I used to think roosters just crowed in the morning, but no, they crow all day long, they’ll crow in the middle of the night too...

A rooster was crowing during the volcanic eruption in Hawaii. Lava and toxic gases spewing out and a rooster just crowing away. I guess he was warning everyone to get out. Glad he wasn't wearing a rooster collar.

Does it actually work because it really need to because I want to create my own chicken breed and for that I need a few roosters and I live in the middle of the town

50/50. In my experience, a loose cat collar can have the same effect. But an animal will always come with unpredictable variables, as they don't follow any concrete rules, so expect some stragglers.

I have watched numerous videos now on how to quiet a rooster. But none of them give demonstration of before and after how the sound difference is without and with the collar.

Does this work for loud hens because my hen screams her head of all the time for attention
@EP-qi8edАй бұрын
We sell the hens of ours that are loudest twice a year....easier to sell them and replace them with new ones that are quiet.....We always raise a few extra chicks so that once they start laying, you can assess who is quiet and who is noisy....then sell the noisy ones and keep the quiet ones....

I'm interested to know if this will work on a hen that crows. (yes, its a hen, she lays eggs, and is about 8 years old)

I wouldn't see why not. I think it constricts the "vocal cords" so I would bet it's not male specific. What have you got to loose?

Basically you’re choking your chicken. Pun intended. But hey really. Don’t ever do this to a chicken. You can cause it to be “crop bound,” or any other number of ailments.

Oh, that's terrible. I just use ear plugs so I can't hear my rooster crowing. And too, so I can't hear my husband snoring! :-)

I really hate the roosters that are in the backyard, I live in a house for rent and the owners are living in a different side but still same house and they have roosters I can't do anything about, I literally have a window right to the backyard
