Most people have no idea how much work and care is involved making stained glass. You do very beautiful work.

I am sure this technique will be great for using a patina. Getting a good black is often a strain. But how do you get and keep a good shine to a piece you want to leave with the silver of fresh solder

I didn't know that patina could be reapplied; game changer. Also like the idea of getting a chemical polish out of my arsenal!

Thank you so much for doing this video!! I’ve been struggling with the same problems and you have given me hope to get my solder lines nice and black with no white residue from the polish🙌🙌 Do you think that older copper foil plays a part in the dull finish, even though the copper foil has never been opened from its original pkg.? Keep sending out great tips! Your videos are so well done! Cindy

after see your video i was going to use vinegar as you suggested. then I found this online: Do not clean stained glass with an abrasive material as it will remove or scratch the patina on the metal. Never use vinegar, ammonia (e.g., windex) or any acid-based cleanser, as these can destroy the came or solder that is holding the piece. What to do now??

I ask you if when we use lead-free pewter we should use patina. And if it has to be cleaned anyway?
@sherricoffee7067

Could the dulling be because of the chemical reaction to the petina? Inoticed you did not wash it off after applying it. I learned that the patina is a chemical reaction and after a few minutes after applying it is to be washed off because it is a chemical reaction not a paint.

The vinegar works very well with thr patina it also helps the remove and clean it from the glass. However if your not getting the desired effect then yes I would wash it more.

When cleaning up an older piece with ugly solder residue, after the initial wipe with white vinegar would it help to use 0000 steel wool, then more vinegar, before applying the new patina?
@reneesstainedglassworks3990
@reneesstainedglassworks3990 3 жыл бұрын
Yes it would be good to use 0000 grit steel wool

Thanks for sharing the white vinegar trick. I'm always down for options using household items instead of harsh chemicals. I noticed what appears to be a blue dream catcher with feathers hanging down in the background. Are you a Native American? If not then please google The Arts and Craft Act of 1990 and respect the Indigenous people and their livelihood. I would like to invite everyone else to google that as well. Your work looks awesome! Choctaw Native.

I don't use copper patina very often but I think it should be ok. It would be best to test a small area and make sure you get the results you want.

when you patina the piece for the 1st time with the toothbrush do you wash the patina off
@reneesstainedglassworks3990
@reneesstainedglassworks3990 3 жыл бұрын
I dont wash it off. Sometimes I dry it with a dry cloth and then spray it with vinegar and wipe clean. If its really dirty and you feel more comfortable you can give a rinse with some vinegar. After that I allow it to sit for a little while before polishing with more vinegar and microfiber cloth.
