Thanks for the comment, rampage42! It's a common problem you mention, just take it easy and rely on regulary training. Also take care that the legs are really straight, even if you won't be able to split them so far, keeping them straight is the correct way to achieve progress.

Of course! The flexibility determines how high and how safely you can kick, while the desired speed is attained through regular excercise of the kick. Thanks for the comment!

There is never only one way, my friend! This is one of the safe ones, but you can achieve progress much faster with a greater risk of serious injury. Listen to your own body, find your limits and do your best to expand them. Little strokes fell great oaks!

one thing not mentioned in the video. is actually doing high kicks. most preferably on a heavy bag. there will be a spot high on the bag that you can barely reach with your best effort high kick. you will feel a little stretch everytime you try to hit that spot. keep kicking that spot and doing these stretches. eventually you won't feel much of a stretch kicking that spot and then you raise that spot higher on the bag and do the same thing again. you will gradually start to kick higher

True, if you legs are differently long the muscles could hav developed assymetrically. Nevertheless it is no reason to give up! Just go easy on yourself during the stretches and excercise every day. The you should develop groin flexibility fairlt quickly. Thanks for the comment, clifty32!

Thanks so much for the video. Just a quick question, in order to kick high, do you need strength, or a lot of muscle in the legs? mainly the thigh? Or is it all about flexibility? Thanks.

It is anatomically impossible to stretch all the muscles on your legs as they always wor in opposite pairs(while you stretch one you cannot stretch the other). You'll have to do several stretches to achieve that. Thanks for the comment.

For self-defence: no! For sparring and competition normally yes, and it is considered a certain achievement as a martial artist. Generally leg flexibility is important but not essential.

Only about 3-6 weeks to reach head level. But don't overdo it! If you feel strong pain better take a day off than cause serious injury. Thanks for the comment!

It depends very much on the trainer. Normally, karate is more into tradition and self-defence, while muay thai is more into sports and competition. But it may differ very much depending on the gym you train in. What karate styles do you have in your vicinity?

good video. So... i stretch before and after i work out for about 7 minutes. at my jiu jitsu class, we stretch for a good 20 minutes. I still am having trouble kicking high. i wound say i can kick almost as high as my shoulders. Is there any other way to gain flexibility because i do stretch at least 3 times a day for 5-10 minutes.

It rather depends on the regularity of your stretching training, not on the long-term time. If you train every day, 1 more month should do the job. Remember that hard work is the key to success. Thanks for your comment!
