Drive forward with your hips for more power, don't just flick. Snap back with the same side arm, keep the other one in front of your face to protect yourself. Pivot the support leg, but don't stay on the ball of that foot, settle it down immediately after, so you don't push yourself back, but rather - them. And most importantly find your distance
