I actually prefer the videos without music. It makes the edits seamless. I get to hear the music while I am playing. I just got Valheim so this series is right at the perfect time. I can follow you up to the point where I am and learn what I have done wrong.

I follow a very different game start approach. I don't rush Eikthyr or Copper/Tin mining at all. Three of the best items/upgrades in the game are all available early on: the Finewood Bow, Troll armour and the Stagbreaker hammer. So my first ten days or so in the game are focused on getting and upgrading these items, rather than on killing Eitkthyr and rushing to Bronze. I only use the Crude Bow to knock down some Deer for meat and hides to craft Leather armour, which help me to survive in Black Forest. Then I shoot for the Finewood Bow immediately. That entails getting Fine Wood which you can't chop prior to Bronze Age. But you can knock down Beech trees next to Birch trees, then roll the logs together to break down the Birch into usable logs. It's horrendously long-winded at first but as you gain experience in it, you start to know what type of tree clusters and terrain to look for: two Birch trees near to each other, no steep slopes, as few rocks as possible, few Saplings, and so on. Once I have Fine Wood, it is a simple matter to skirt along a Black Forest coast, find some Pines and chop lots of Core wood for both the Finewood bow and Stagbreaker. I upgrade my Workbench asap via the Chopping Block and Tanning Rack, then upgrade the Finewood to level 3. That bow, along with Fire arrows, turns the Eikthyr fight into a quick and easy romp. Each hit takes off a big chunk of his health bar, I doubt the fight takes even a minute. But even when I've killed him, I'm not rushing for Bronze. Instead, I find a nice flat clear area of Meadows, on the coast and preferably with Black Forest within easy reach both up and down the coastline, and make my one and only base there. It does get enhanced a bit with Stone in Iron Age but the basic structure is in place, all fenced off and secure, before I have even mined a single Tin or Copper Ore. Then I go Troll-hunting for Troll armour. Then I craft Stagbreaker. Then, and only then, do I venture into the Burial Chambers in search of Surtling Cores for my smelting equipment. The Skellies and Ghosts can be daunting early on. When you have Troll armour and a Stagbreaker... not so much. :D Once I have the Kiln and Smelter set up permanently in my end-game base, and with almost all of my terraforming and building behind me, then I launch with serious intent. The Finewood Bow lasts me easily into Mountains where I upgrade to my end-game Draugr Fang, the Troll legs and chest *are* my end-game armour (no movement penalty), and Stagbreaker lets me find Silver without beating Bonemass. Most people spend a long time in Bronze and Iron. I rush through both to get to Silver with its end-game Onions, Frostner and Draugr Fang and its Plains-enabling Dragon Tears from Moder. Not having to craft Bronze or Iron armour, not having to fight Bonemass, and not having to upgrade my bow from Meadows until I get into Mountains, saves massive chunks of time and labour. I do return to the Swamp later to get the Iron for Porcupine, Padded Helm, the various final Forge and base upgrades, and the Longship. But by that point I have Frostner, a Silver or Serpent Scale Shield, Draugr Fang, Frost arrows and a Drake Helm. So let's just say that Draugr, Blobs, Oozers and Wraiths aren't quite as intimidating as they were earlier.

Love to see people with a similar strategy. Also you can get finewood without hitting even one tree. The stone towers in the Black forest with the chest behind the door have a barrel and a stool in front. Break them and you get your stuff. Stool gives 1 finewood and the barrel random stuff but can give ya up to 10 finewod. I even got troll leather from there. Since I search for the trader I find enough of those structures to get the finewood bow without bothering with the threes. I get finewood bow, then trollarnore then I make boat and search for chitin aaand an easy lox kill without those flying demons around. Kill eikthyr and elder. Cause I don't wanna have even one elder event. Get the iron for the serpent scale shield, build the shield, make frost resistance potions and go for some silver. Build the lox cape aaand farm silver with the help of the stage breaker of course until I get the silver armor, Frostner aaand eventually the sword.... only cause I like the look of it. Crush Bonemass aaand Moder. Again, I don't wanna have Moder raids cause they're just annoying. Bonemass events are ok, cause they help with the food. Now I search for a small plains islands to build my base. Soo I basically skipp completely the bronze and iron stuff. I still have to get iron for the pickax aand the porcupine. I still build the padded armor. But mostly I'm in troll armor or silver armor. I also build only two shields. Serpent and black metal round shield. Also i build the flit axe first and replace it with the endgame black metal one. Frostner and porcupine for the battle aaand eventually silver or black metal sword.

@@vadimblin I like your thinking! I'm interested that you build your end-game base in Plains. I presume you do that so that you can have everything including Flax and Barley in one spot. I thought about this for a long time and it is tempting. But I ultimately settled on a two-base system. My end-game base is on the coast in Meadows close to Black Forest and is built even before I've started mining, as I outlined. That means everything I put down is in its final place already and will never have to be broken down or moved or built again somewhere else. Then once I have Dragon Tears, I build a farm in Plains. It's a simple 10x10 square of cultivated land ringed with a stone wall three tiles high. There is a single layer of roof tiles along one wall, with a Workbench, Stonecutter, Portal, Artisan Table and a couple of Chests under the roof. There is also a Windmill but the rest is crop fields. I tame every Lox in the vicinity so Plains combat becomes optional. This is what makes Troll armour viable in end-game for me. Usually, I portal in to the farm to plant/harvest my crops. Once my chores are done, I leave the farm and run around the surrounding area, sniping Squitoes, aggroing Fulings and Growths and leading them to my Lox, who crush them like bugs. I scoop up the loot, pet and feed the Lox to keep them happy and healthy, and head homewards. On my latest playthrough, I found a village with a Maypole inland so I decided to build my base there instead of on the coast. OMG, that was such a mistake. Sure, the extra Comfort point from the Maypole is handy but not being on the coast is painful. I struggle to sustain Fish Wraps because there is no coast for fishing nearby. I struggle to sustain arrows because no gulls land on the ground around my base at night for Feathers. I have to run a long way to offload ore from my boat to the base. So I won't do that again. I'm totally welded to the strategy of building my end-game base on the coast in Meadows. Nothing else is efficient for me. Another thing I do is to stop making Coal asap. Instead, I find a Swamp with several Fireholes in close proximity. I level them with my pickaxe till they're knee-deep in water, which instantly kills any Surtlings that spawn. Then I plonk down a portal in the middle and periodically visit the area to pick up the Coal dropped by the Surtlings. In my current map, I found a Swamp with six Fireholes in a ring. Each Firehole produces 12 Coal from its 3 Surtlings. So doing one circuit of the 6 Fireholes delivers 72 Coal. By the time I've completed the circuit, five minutes have elapsed and the first Firehole is spawning Surtlings again. So I can do another circuit immediately. Two circuits take me from dawn till just after lunch and produce 144 Coal. I don't know how long it would take me to chop wood and process 144 Coal in the Kiln. But I'm sure it would be a lot longer than a morning. In addition, the tamed Lox knock down trees and bushes constantly while fighting and running around Frightened. So I'm drowning in Wood at my base I have more than 1000 stored and nothing to use it on. I have crafted the Blackmetal Axe but I don't think I've used it yet, heh. I'm really lazy. Fighting, chopping, mining, gathering, terraforming and building all sound like hard work to me. So I skip them wherever possible, haha.

@@Kysen thanks and yeah, that is the genius of Valheim - that you can play it however you like, there is no right or wrong. I also enjoy seeing and hearing how people approach the game, how they design and structure their bases, what gear they choose to prioritise and so on. It really is the ultimate sandbox game where you can tailor it to however you want.

Love that you don't "prescribe" a play style to people. You tell us what you do and recommend but don't say "Don't ever make a flint knife!" Haha I never made the knife weapons until this play through and I'm enjoying it! I also like building more than moving through the game so I go as far as I can in the game before killing the bosses lol 😆

That's a way too. Also it can have benefits not to rush a boss. Eikthyr is a boss most people do as fast as possible.... I actually wouldn't recommend that. Cause his ability helps not to run out of stamina that quickly but I think in the beginning it's more important to learn how to manage your stamina. To learn how much can I actually do. In the beginning it's easy to panic rush if you run into many enemies at once and that's how you die. Also in the beginning you have to search for food while later you can have giant fields of food growing. Eikthyr raid is damn handy there.

I would say that no music is preferable in this type of video. The reason being: unless you edit the music into the video separately, other edits will create breaks in the music that are distracting (at least for me - music lover here). Additionally, the music could be thematically different from what you are talking about creating another distraction. Great video, thank you!

Worst advice ever bro. If your otherwise undefended base is not surrounded in campfires and you're just wilding out with the hammer you will likely get destroyed and just sleep after respawning then collect your stuff log out and try really hard to come up with a plan that fails before you spend your day's farming stone to build a terrain wall around your main base. It's a legitimate strategy just do it first lol

First time I played the game I didn't kill Eikthyr until after Day 100 (mostly because I was exploring and learning and building and just generally having fun) and it was super easy. I restarted recently because of the Hearth and Home update and I battled Eikthyr yesterday I think around game day 60-ish (Once again I did a big loop exploring the meadow first to decide where to base and where to mini base. Took about 5 days in game. Then building and hunting took a bit. Also made a few outposts and marked on map mushroom and raspberry fields (and bees) and made some paths for easier travel. I prepared according to your suggestion to fight Eikthyr... and died 3 times during the fight. However I have a sneaking suspicion it's because I had the unlucky spawn of the altar next to a black forest. It was really hard to fight him when I had a swarm of Greydwarves attacking me too. But once I ignored hitting Eikthyr for a bit and killed the Greydwarves with torches I had a lot easier of a time dealing with him. And as a bonus, using your tree tip I ended up with several stacks of wood I didn't have to chop.

@traviskinchen2265
@traviskinchen2265 2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. A wooden tower shield with one upgrade can face tank every one of Eikthyr's attacks, no armor required at all, and you can just stand there and beat him to death with any old melee weapon and never take a point of damage. Way faster and easier than the ranged method in my experience. I actually like the flint spear for the job as it gives you a bit more reach and when that pansy deer runs away from you you can chuck it at him and just pick it up again as you chase down that cowardly ungulate. I usually farm him a couple of times in quick succession so I can make a stack of pickaxes, speeding up the copper mining process as I don't have to stop and repair as often.

being "rested" gives you a buff to stamina and health regen, but the "Resting" status itself gives you further benefits. when you eat do it inside near at home when you can so your bars fill up a bit faster. really useful for mining, since rock overhead counts as shelter and a simple campfire can give you resting.

I generally end up turning most game music either almost all the way down or completely off. That's not a statement about the music or the devs. It's more about the repetition turning anything into an ear worm after a while. I felt no urge to visit the audio options menu while watching, so I like this way. Thumbs up regardless of your choice. Take care.

Never had to repair anything or eat during the fight, didn't have honey either so used raspberries instead. I guess I did get kinda lucky though because a giant tree fell over so I just kept kiting him around it and jumping over the log when he got too close. Log finally broke apart, but by then it was almost dead anyway.

Hi Kysen, just wandering if you are considering doing a video for each boss after the H&H update. Main reason being that Yagluth now seems to be unreasonably hard. Would love to see your take on it. A friend and I went with top level armor and weapons and 300 frost arrows and barely made a dent. Yagluth regenerates HP so fast! I think we will be off to New World ;) while the devs fix it. Looking forward to more of your videos 😊.

Fighting that boss around where he spawns you can use the standing stones the same way as you were using the trees, and if your health gets low you just need to keep one of the stones between you and him while your health regenerates. In the first video I noticed the music and wished it gone, in the second I never even noticed it was gone, so it didn't bother me, so no music from me. Whenever I start a game, the first thing I do is go into options and turn off the music.

Me personally the first thing I do when get into a new game is turn off the music. Not because I don't like it but because if there is music playing I can't hear the enemies.

everything takes Deer Hide; get 50 and it's still not enough Bronze is really slow to gather + smelt. bad rng on copper nodes Bronze armor is slightly better than Troll skin armor but has a movement penalty; just get the helmet and use the rest on base improvements

All I get from bronze is the axe and the buckler aaand if I have enough left, the pickax. It is only slightly faster when the antler one and since I always have the workbench nearby when I go for the copper vines the durability doesn't really matter.

They seem to yes. Also many people say to hunt them in the rain as apparently they come in to land more often then :)

My original world got deleted entirely by accident and we started a new world. We started exploring and I said to my buddy, "wanna just go kill Eikthyr real quick while we're here?" And used our endgame equipment and killed him in seconds. 🤣

Music would be good, but added after recording during editing. It'll stop the clipping that happens from your editing, that was a tiny bit annoying.

I like your videos without the Valheim soundtrack for 2 reasons. #1: I do find that the music can be a bit weird with scene cuts. #2: I enjoy putting some of your videos on my phone while I’m in world playing the game with the music playing. That being said, I would like to see you find some free to play music in your favorite genres. It could add flavor, spice, and something new to an already good video.

It depends on how new you are to the game really. This was designed to give new players a look at the Eikthyr fight and an idea of how they can kill Eikthyr fairly easily and with low risk :)

Well , this is probably the simplest option. Not the easiest but also not the hardest. You can clap him with shield and club. But you also can go for the black forest first aaand get stuff for the finewood bow. Finewood is from those trees that you can't chop without at least bronze axe. But you can get it from barrels and stools near stone towers which you can find in the black forest. Make sure you have a torch and material to build one which is wood and resin. Find a stone tower, kill the enemies, break barrels and stool. Repeat until you have enough. You'll also need corewood. Pine trees in black forest. Just chop em down. With that bow ... you'll need probably not even 2 minutes for eikthyr
