Welcome to another #knitwithkika video, things are heating up in here because today we're knitting a simple sweater in the loveliest chunky yarn. This video walks you through step by step how to knit a sweater, and since it's knitted on fairly big needles, it's really quick to knit, hooray!
This video is filled with tips if you're new to knitting, so it's great if you're a beginner. Or, if you've been knitting for a while and want some inspiration and a few tricks on what I do to make my knits have that "hand made" feeling as opposed to "home made" 😆 For example, I usually fold my collars in half and I also used a new trick to get my stockinette stitch looking extra smooth 😏
Things we cover in this video:
0:30 Overview of the project
2:45 How to make at gauge swatch
4:49 A tip to make your stockinette stitch more even
5:59 How to knit the front & back pieces
8:59 Forming the neckline by decreasing stitches
15:21 How to join two strands of yarn together seamlessly
17:04 Knitting the sleeves
19:43 How to increase stitches
22:52 Putting all the pieces together
26:05 Picking up stitches from the neckline & knitting the collar
27:07 The final result!
The yarn I used for this project is Drops Wish in colour 02 (which is a super goood choice if you're like me and very sensitive to itchy yarns, this one is so so soft even against the skin). Here's the link www.garnstudio.com/yarn.php?s...
I named this knit The Sunday Brunch sweater because I feel it has that perfect combination of being modern yet very comfortable due to it's boxy and slightly oversized shape.
I'd love to see your knit projects, remember to use the hashtag #knitwithkika on Instagram or KZfaq so we can come see your work! Thank you so much for watching and happy knitting!

My favorite way to knit sleeves is 2 at a time in a long circular needle. Then I can keep my tension and pattern consistent. ❤

I’m part way through this sweater! I’m in the process of hand spinning yarn from a raw fleece I processed myself, from which I will eventually be knitting a sweater, but I’ve never knit a sweater before, so figured I should probably do at least one from commercial yarn before I dare use hand spun. This fit the bill perfectly!

Beginner knitter here. I found your instructions very clear and helpful. I bought and made this pattern because I really needed practice with purling, increasing, and consistency with tension. My sweater is finished and it isn't great, but I learned a lot. It turns out that my inconsistent tensioning is my biggest problem. Honestly, I am happy even though it isn't perfect. It will still be fine for the frigid desert mornings and evenings in the house. I will try making it again, better the next time, as it is a very comfortable sweater. Thank you ❤

This pattern was easy to follow and I loved the result! For fellow knitters, I had to essentially double the amount of increases in the arm to add width and length because the original pattern just did not suit my body (I made size M). I also referenced these videos for joining seams: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hciljdp50dOoc30.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ir-WdrSe2MiVmYE.html Happy knitting 🥰

I just finished mine and I LOVE IT! Thank you so much for the instructions and helpful video. I was worried the neck hole would be way too big, I ended up using 5mm needles to knit the neck ribbing and it tightened it up perfectly and it doesn't flay outward. It took me about 1 month to make. One helpful tip I learned is to leave the ends really long before cutting them, so you can use that tail to sew the pieces together instead of adding more yarn on.

Hi! I like how you explained everything! In appearance, l thought it is not from the beginning, the entire story of knitting a sweater, yet, now l realize that all made sense and l understood it. It is what matters! I also noticed that each step had something different from all l make my sweaters! Yet, all l learned is that each knitting person has her own style and that is good and each new thing one finds out, can improve the style! So, thank you very much for your kind and very competent explanatory tutorial. I just loved listening and seeing it!

I'm still watching your tutorial, but I just want to say that after I changed to combined knitting style (when I purl, I loop the yarn clockwise instead of counterclockwise), my knit and purl stitches became pretty much the same size. When my wrists are hurting, I purl in the Portuguese knitting style. It's much faster to purl this way and the purl stitch matches my continental knit stitch. :) Now I must go back and finish watching your vid!

The larger on the side you will knit with, and the smaller needle on the side you purl with. With the right side facing you flat, the larger needle would be on your left

I will try to do a video on that, good to know :) Yes so in the pattern it will say how many grams or meteres/ yards you use for the different sizes, so then depending on the weight of the ball of yarn (on the paper label it alwyas says how much it weighs and how many mentres/yards it is), so you then have to do a bit of math :)

I definitely miscalculated how much yarn I would need. I bought the "air" version of the yarn you used and still went solely based off the weight in grams. so instead of 4-5 skeins of 100g (140m) yarn, I bought 10 skeins of 50 gram (150m) yarn. my American brain got so confused! I didn't realize until after my purchase was finalized my mistake. maybe I can make a matching cardigan to go with my brunch sweater lol!

Ciao Kika, thanks a lot for sharing your great talent and amazing vids, I am really enjoying! After a success with your chunky beanie tutorial, I would like to try this one now :) However, I have only circular needles with 60cm circumference. Would it be possible to make this project with those, or 80cm are necessary? Thank you very much and sending lots of support from CZ!

Hi Kika, I have used your pattern and LOVE it😍🧶 please could you tell me how to use the pattern with a thinner yarn, like a fine wool instead of chunky? Could I for example double the amount of stiches but keep the bigger needles…? 🤔Please help, I’d love to have this sweater in a thinner material🤗🧶😍❤️

When I'm finished knitting one side of the neckline and have cast off my 19 stitches, how do I properly resume knitting the other side of the neckline? I had to severe the yarn when I finished the first side-- how do I properly incorporate the yarn so I can complete the other side? Thanks for sharing this pattern!

I made the Sunday Brunch sweater and just loved it. In fact it turned out so well that I invested in really lovely yarn and made another one. Love your channel end enjoy all of your tips. I have a question. I would like to know the brand of the stitch holder you use. I have tried searching for a similar one but could not find one. Thanks so much for your excellent information.
