Yolanda, the extra two stitches that you had you never mentioned how to work them in. As a beginner to knitting it would have helped to know how to work them in. Thank you for taking the time to video tape this, and I love all of your projects.

I finally knitted my very fist piece of clothing! Thank you for the tutorial! I was daunted with just reading the pattern but found it was much easier combined with your video. I didn't want to use acrylic yarn though, but I had Lily's sugar n cream cotton yarn which is also a 4 medium with 6 mm needles. The gauge was fine but since I used cotton, it wasn't as stretchy and I realized after several rows that 70 cast on stitches wouldn't fit my head so I frogged it and started over with more cast ons. Despite the changes, adjusting the crown was not difficult at all. Thank you again and hopefully we could look forward to more knitting videos!

I absolutely love your video, Thank You! I've made two of these beanies following your video. The first one I made exactly how you did and the second one I made a bit smaller and longer for my son cos he wants it to be slouchy, they both came out perfect. My BFF said they looked shop bought and was quite shocked that I (A BEGINNER), made them. Let me just add that these two beanies are the very first items I've knitted so I am an absolute beginner. The complement my BFF gave put me on cloud nine and I think you should give yourself a very well deserved pat on the back for a job well done. I will be looking out for your videos in future and will attempt to make items from your previous videos.😘

Hi Yolanda, I just used your video to knit my first hat! Thanks very much. I've only ever knitted scarfs, and haven't done any knitting for more than 30 years. With my hat, though, I made the amateur mistake of using the wrong type of yarn and needles. I used 5mm needles and really thick yarn so it was a very tight pattern. And then because I wanted to knit it for my 4yr old daughter I reduced the cast on stitches to 40 and reduced the initial knitting section from 10 inches to 7 inches. It ended up being just a little bit tight, so next time I will cast on a few more stitches. I think if I was to use thinner yarn and/or thicker needles, the hat would have been stretchier. Anyway, thanks for the video.

For you beginners when you knit the ribbed pattern if it curls it means you knit to tight also for the project you always wanna stick with the sized needles it calls for otherwise you'll end up with a completley different sized project especially sweaters and hats always stick with the needles the size sweater or hat calls for depending on what size you want

I made this hat, I added a few more cast on stitches, just to make it bigger - for anyone who wants to do this, just make sure your cast on stitches are divisible by 4 + 2 (e.g. 120 is a multiple of 4, add 2 - 122 is how many cast ons you need.) - You follow the instructions exactly, and you will be left with more than 9 stitches at the end but that's fine

Thanks so much for this video! Your hat looks terrific. Ive just finished mine and it looks GREAT! I have a small head and is quite tight fitting but then I used a chunkier wool on size 6mm needles as I am a loose knitter and think it looks sloppy that way. Am about to make a pom pom for mine and a matching scarf!. Just wondering if you have any tips, Yolanda, to adjust the stitch amount (and decreasing) to make slightly larger for a man's head (as my son now wants one) and smaller for my 5 year old grandson? Thanks again! Btw, I knitted mine on circular needles but as flat knitting and sewed the seam together. (Although my seam does show rather sloppy on the brim when turn upwards on the outside but then again it is down below the back of the head and not that visible). :)

Thanks a lot Yolanda but may I have 2 questions ? 1- On the Row 2 of knitting Shape Crown, it writes *P2, K1, repeat * to the last 2 stitches , P2. But in your tutorial, I saw you did P2 together. I'm wondering if it changed the pattern in your paper ? 2- How many balls did you use for this hat ? How many meters of yarn in your ball? (I guess it takes 1 ball but I'm not sure about the total length of yarns) Thanks in advance for your soonest reply.

I noticed the very same thing!!Yolanda im on the second row of crown shaping and Im confused...should I purl 2 or purl 2together?
@slto91
@slto91 7 жыл бұрын
For the shape crown, in row 2, you purled two together, but the pattern never said to do it together? Was that a mistake? Because it makes sense to not purl two together but to just purl two to match the previous row... The pattern doesn't even say how many stitches you should end up with at the end of row 2, so i'm gonna assume the video was a mistake and the pattern on the sheet is correct?

Have recently returned to knitting after many, many years not knitting. Was really enjoying your tutorial until the crown section - your extra stitches suddenly change to purl with no explanation, then disappear altogether with no explanation?? Not good for those of us following your example. Also row 3 in crown section is not purl 2 together. I have downloaded the pattern for myself to finish this hat. So thank you for giving me the confidence and understanding to ‘go it alone’ with the pattern 😀

Dear Yolanda, first of all thank you so much for going through this pattern step by step! it's very helpful for a first-time-hatter! A question - say I want to knit a hat without that "fold" at forehead level, meaning that 10 inches of row 1 & 2 is too much. Have you any idea what length should a "shorter" hat be? It is rather difficult to explain... Thank you :)

Great tutorial but I do have a question for the crown portion. The pattern said when you get to Row 4 to repeat Row 2 which was Purl 2 together and Knit 1 but when you got to Row 4 you didn't Purl 2 together why is that? Thanks!

ive tried this twice now! i alternate every row starting off on a knit or a purl, but a few rows in i notice ive got a sort of ribbed checkered effect! the ribbing wont align. I cant figure out what im doing wrong. What does the "right side", and "Wrong side" great video thank you!
