Welcome to The Blue Mouse Knits! Today I'll be walking you through how to avoid purl bumps (also called purl dashes or purl blips) when changing colors in ribbing. Typically when you change colors in knitting while working a rib knit stitch you will get a row at the beginning and end of a stripe with purl bumps from the previous color showing in the new color. It can make the project look less than perfect, so this technique will show you how to achieve clean stripes in ribbing. The trick is super simple, all you have to do is work the first row of a new color in all knit stitches instead of ribbing. Then after that row you return to your ribbed pattern until you change colors again. This can be worked the same way for flat or in the round, although I demonstrate this to you flat using continental knit style.
