I bought "50 tips from Shetland Knitters" and it is one of the best purchase I ever made! I learned so much watching it and then, there are those fantastic tutorials on YT. I can not stop having those "ah-ha" moments watching you - I feel so lucky to watch a true master at work! Thank you so much for sharing. 😀

What a lovely and helpful tutorial! I've been knitting for many years, and glove fingers have always given me trouble, so I've avoided them and knit mittens and mitts instead. Now I can't wait to try this technique! Thank you so very much! And besides being helpful, your presentation is so calm and peaceful, it's a happy thing to watch.

This video has been so helpful to me! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us! I had been following written patterns for gloves, but was having trouble with the gaps between the fingers. Your technique is amazing and worked so well!

This is fantastic, thank you! It was one of my favorite tips in '50 tips from Shetland Knitters' and it's great to have it in a stand alone video where I can easily get straight to this particular tip when I need it. So clear and really helpful, thank you!

Thanks so much! This is the clearest, most thought-out video I've seen. If I don't understand what is happening in the instructions, how can I fix a mistake? Or alter for a different size? This is brilliant! I'm subscribing! ❤

Thank you so much for this video, Elizabeth. I watched it over and over so that I could write it down and not forget. I used it in some gloves and mitts that I made and taught others to make. Everyone was successful and loved the results. Thank you again for sharing your expertise in these videos and at Shetland wool week. I can’t wait to see what you share with us this year 2021.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, Elisabeth. I always made up my own way making fingers, but I will use your method in the future. Your tutorial is so clear and it makes so much sense how you pick up the stitches to prevent the little holes. Thank you!

So you do use shorter needles for gloves! I just learned to use a belt, but I’ve always used short needles for fingers!

How wonderful. Thank you, it was a privilege watching this. No matter how hard I try, the little holes at the fingers are my undoing and I end up sewing them up after glove is done. Very logical remedy. What is you average CO for a woman's SM, MED, LG glove? Fingers are "boring" for me also. It's because our minds are accustomed to 'active' work, not the mundane.

Hi,thank you for your teaching. But at times I had trouble seeing what thread you were actually picking up for the closing of the gap. Would it be possible to do another video but this time using a much bigger size yarn and more contrasting colors. Also, could it be possible to have a brighter lighting, if of course you accept my request.Could it be that then I will be able to catch more on what you are doing concerning the gap part.😅

And I meant to say that I had not realised that it is possible to knit circularly on two needles only....with a third doing the knitting. Is there any video tutorial to explain exactly how to do this without ladders. I tend to use circulars but the two needle method looks more doable for fingers.
@elizabethjohnston8681

You can put the finger stitches on 3 needles and a 4th working, that makes the corners easier. But to go round a corner, knit the 1st stitch, tighten it and place your thumb on it to hold it, knit the 2nd st, and that should be your corner turned. Then practice to perfect ... fingers should give you lots of practice!

This is great! I usually do complicated things sewing the holes closed with the tail ends, this looks much better. One question: what thickness yarn is Elizabeth using? I don't think two stitches would be enough for my fat fingers in sock-weight fingering yarn.
@elizabethjohnston8681
@elizabethjohnston8681 3 жыл бұрын
The thickness I am using J&S juperweight yarn or Jamiesons Spindrift. If you need more space then cast on 3 sts where I did 2 sts, that should be enough.
