Yippiee, I got it! I've been working on this one for a long time and I finally can do it. Thank you!... He has done lots of other wonderful videos without music so I think he got the message about not having music in the background.

This should have been titled the "long tail 1x1 rib cast on". There are so many cast ons for ribbing, it would have helped to catch this video as being different from the rest I have seen. Glad I found it!

Thanks for this...its a god send, I have just started making socks and am experimenting to get the 'perfect sock' for me. This rib is brilliant. I clicked on the widget and slowed the video down so that I could knit alongside you, learning the technique. Love the music but admit I did hit the volume, turned it off and clicked on subtitles instead. Brilliant, I understood everything you were saying too. Thanks again for the tutorial.

I'm puzzled about where the ribbing "starts". Say I'm knitting in the round, 80 stitches per round. I make the slip knot and then cast on 79 stitches as shown. It seems that the first loop AFTER the initial slip-knot loop is a knit stitch, and the next (the third overall) is a purl. So when I begin the next round, if I knit into the original loop and purl into the second, I'm knitting the purls and purling the knits, which is the opposite of what I want for ribbing. Do I have this right?

Great demo but the music!

I love NSAD videos and I had never heard one with distracting music as this one had. Thanks for responding and keeping the music to only the intro and end. I would like to know if cadegavel's issue was answered and if that is indeed the way she understood it to be. Thanks NSAD for your continued help in my knitting.

Are the purl stitches supposed to end up twisted? Do you just untwist them?

This is the best example of how to accomplish this cast on but the music...please consider omitting it when you do tutorials because it is extremely distracting.

As you can see from these comments, everyone is different: I agree that the music is "snappy", but it was definitely distracting. Background music is fine, but if it is as laud as the voice giving instructions, it is annoying.

I find doing it with 2 needles easier.
