I learned this in the '80s, and used to teach it as a bridge between crochet and knit. The old Portuguese knitting used hooked needles, and I had found an old reference to Peruvian knitting long ago, possibly taken there by Portuguese sailors--who knows?. Great technique, and I am glad to see someone playing with it. It can br used for any knitting, without going back to front around the needles, by just making sure your left hook is pointed down. Work it just like knit or purl. And remember the old trick of wrapping rubber bands around the ends, to make end caps, so you can hold more stitches. There are cirular double ended crochet hooks, which are very nice, too.

Wow! How do I say it? Wow! I can see using that technique for a host of projects. Cotton for kitchen, acrylic for sweaters and so much more. I do see this taking off worldwide eventually. More than anything it shows that creativity is not dead. Just think outside the box. Thank you.

Ive been crocheting most of my life, but have some sort of mental block with knitting, just have never been able to get it! And, as expected, i love knit fabric and am mostly lukewarm about most crochet. So i decided to look again if there was a way to knit with crochet hooks, and voila, i found this. Thank you! You make it look so logical its almost intuitive. Going to try this with my tunisian hooks soon! (Although my tunisians have cables, so that may present its own difficulties haha)

Let me know how it works out, I think the metal hooks ( the weight) made this a bit fiddly, I’m going to get a set of plastic and a set of wooden Tunisian hooks , I think it will be more comfortable and efficient 😊

I'm glad this exists. I got a pair of knitting needles from dollar tree to try it out. For my first time knitting, it's a bit harder to handle than crochet. I figured its because you are using 2 needles instead of hooks. Will definitely keep this in mind when I get my longer hooks

I really enjoyed trying this stitch. Like you, no tunisian, but plenty of regular hooks. I can't choose between the two as to which is my favorite. Unless i choose by which is easier. The second wins hands down for sure! Thank you for showing this to us! I bet we will see numerous projects coming up with this croknit stitch. Actually, since croknit is another name for crohook, it probably will need to be called by another name, but kitchet seems strange somehow. Maybe Hook knitting? Whatever it is called i am sure it will catch on!

This is fascinating. As a scrumbler who has added tunisian crochet to the mix, this is perfect. Must figure out how to do round shapes, if possible. Subscribed and look forward to your croknit explorations (thumbs down on knitchet... like @gaylehenderson603 mentions, there's a tunisian-ness to it so maybe tunisian knitting? 8-)

Wow. Don't know how I didn't get notified but I am so glad I found the video even without youtube's help. I don't know how your mind works to even come up with this idea. It is great. I see where you told Rosemary that you were watching a knitting video on casting on with crochet hooks. I have watched those too recently (trying to get back to knitting a little) but I sure never got this idea. My hands are too uncoordinated to try this morning but I will be trying this and of course I have tunisian hooks and am ready to go. What feels awkward for me is that the finished fabric is on the right hand but I don't think I will have any problems with this at all. I can't believe this hasn't been out before. Great idea and thanks for sharing it.

@@ItsNotKnit Hey, I did it. I knitcheted. However, I tried it with one straight tunesian hook and one flexible hook and I can't use the flexible hook at all for tunesian. I hold my long hook all the way at the back and twirl the hook. So tomorrow, I will get another straight hook from the craft room and see about a scarf. I am getting confused about having the finished fabric in my right hand but we'll see if more practice overcomes that. Also my stitches are much looser than yours but I crochet and knit with a loose tension nowadays. I would love to see this take off also but so many youtubers are having trouble learning and handling just the tunesian crochet. Thanks for sharing.

I use three hooks for circular knitting. I cast on using crochet and then loop through the stitch creating a cast on and then raglan l to r or continental r to l. Your cast on gives you double loops per stitch?
