I lived with my sister for almost a year, my dog and her dog (raised separately) used to "fight" all the time. At first it kinda scared us, but as time went on, we realized they were actually really good together. They would kinda wrestle, both being the predator. However, as soon as one dog showed any sign of real distress, the other dog would immediately stop and get cuddly instead. They never actually hurt each other and after every play fight, they'd groom each other and such.

When my dogs play fight we leave water bowls close to them and every 15 minutes they stop playing and drink water

All depends on way too many variables & breed so needs constant supervision. Someone used to allow "play fighting" between my dogs, however shortly after its a NO. Doesn't work in my house & many houses. Creates an issue waiting to happen. Ever since i have not allowed play fighting, tug, or even high level behavior has been more peaceful overall. & better between the dogs.

My dog will grab the skin around the neck and not let go when playing fighting. She has yet to pierce the skin. I usually remove her from the other dog when this happens. What would be the most appropriate way to deal with this behaviour. She is a Staffordshire Terrier X Amstaff so she is high energy and impact when playing.

I have a question about the staring. My two French bulldogs play rough but seem to have a good level of role reversal. But they also stalk each other a lot. By which I mean one, or sometimes both, will crouch and stalk for a while before it eventually explodes into their usual play. Is the stalking part healthy? Sometimes they’re both doing it in like a cowboy stand-off, and other times it’s the smaller of the two trying to get the larger one to play. Thoughts?

Yeah if they are still and making eye contact it's about to go down. Do you have any tips for breaking them up? I haven't found anything that's safe for me that works.

@@yandelmendez05 use a shovel lmao if they don't have a good lock on the other dog a shovel would be the best option and someone else to separate the dog if there's not 2 people then I have no idea

2 people, each picks one dog up by the back legs and walks backwards like with a wheelbarrow. The dogs will be pulled apart and while they are moving backwards, can't turn around to bite you

pull their collar upwards very tightly, that'll cut off their oxygen and stop the fight
