Omg I’ve dimmed my light for so many years because for some reason, my existence bothered so many people. I tried to make people believe I was “just like them” so I would act less educated or not dress my best to get people to like me. It made me really depressed because I wasn’t being true to myself. When I look back at it, I cringe 😬 you can’t control how people see you or feel about you. 😅 I’m a reformed people pleaser now

Dimming your light to make other feel more ‘comfortable’ is so real, especially if you are a beautiful woman. I face this at my corporate job, I hate it. I always feel like I’m walking on egg shells. But you are right, it does not do you any favours! Instead you will seem like you are easy to manipulate and take advantage of. Lastly, dimming your light will not rid of their intimidation! They will still treat your poorly because of their insecurities and at the end… you lose.

Yea being the nice girl is HELL 💀 I hated it there but genuinely didnt know how to be anything else since i was taught to be an insane people pleaser my whole life. These habits and changes are so so important to live a fulfilling life. authenticity is key! Just being. No acting. Its ok to be kind which everyone should be, but be REAL

Thank you for this. Just today I told myself I was done doubting myself and not choosing myself. I felt ashamed of all the times I abandoned myself in the past but I’ve chosen to let that shame go so I can move on with my life. To anyone that’s struggling- keep pushing. I feel you when you were saying why should I "humble" myself just to make others feel better about themselves. I know that not exactly what you said but that the message. Also with the "that the most selfish thing" that was true because not being you is going to make you uncomfortable and you know that not nice company to be around. so yes work on yourself but also see your triggers let life flow and stop having expectations just breath. Your doing good girl and i like how you gave personal experiences.

Wow , so glad I found this channel . I do pretty much the same thing . This is eye opening for me . I struggle with accepting my challenges . Legally blind and Single sided deafness kind of makes it difficult to be around a large group so I have stayed to myself so that I won’t have to ask people to repeat themselves . I am now learning to stop worrying about taking up space and giving grace to me.

I can relate to this so much. Especially the part when you talked about "trying not to take up space" to make others feel comfortable... years later i realized that even when i was not my best self and trying to make others feel better about themselves i still had people in my environment being envious about my looks and my life.... After reading plenty of self-help books and journaling about my feelings and thoughts i realized that it does not really matter if you try to make yourself smaller or just be authentic because people are gonna be envious about you anyway and they will feel uncomfortable in your environment anyway even if you are the kindest person in the planet with them. So it's better to be yourself and thrive to be your best self because we have only 1 life. Why should we live with the regret of not living a life true to ourselves because of the expectations or opinions of others about us?
