We used to lace them up in different styles and designs. There weren’t a lot of slip on/laceless sneakers around at the time, and it was ~the thing to do~ so that you didn’t have to tie your shoes everyday.

I always used the lacing method where all the visible laces are parallel to each other. It's so much more comfortable than the standard, and much easier to take off and put on.

I am a grown ass 43 year old man. I wear Chucks, Vans, various brands of skate sneaks and I ladder lace them with my checkered laces in multiple colors. There really isn't ever a need to quit anything. You can't tell me if you saw a 60 something year old person in dress clothes and a pair of Chucks with checkered laces and graffiti on wouldn't be the coolest thing ever. I'm yappy, sorry, this will likely be the only interaction I have with you. But as an "old" dude, I am telling, fight adulthood when you can. Don't be in a rush to toss out kid stuff. The way we came up with creative ways to lace our shoes, the way we sported duct tape belts and wallets, the way we signed and doodled on each others shirts, jeans, shoes, walls lol, etc… I think it’s cool how so much of our generation was able to embrace that type of creative self expression without the need or care for the hyper materialism we see more largely embraced today.

For any one with a wide toe box skipping the very bottom hole helped me and I used to do it all the time as a kid and would put a bear claw nail on the hole as a charm for my high school
