Its nice when you have the landing to yourself. I think I need a Minnkota Ulterra and just launch it and let it go. Then drive it back to the dock.. until the remote control fails and your boat goes bye bye. I wish I was better at launching by myself. There always seems to be a line up of impatient fishermen getting annoyed that it takes longer to launch with one person. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the video; your video was the first I've seen of the Drotto latch system. I've since found there are similar products available but the Drotto seemed well constructed when I looked at it at a local dealer and also looks to be the most convenient to use. I just ordered a new Lund and because of your video I included a Drotto in my purchase package. Update: I found that my use of the Drotto is dependent on the boat launch slope. Of the ramps that I've used since I got my boat, perhaps one in three allowed the Drotto to latch for me. My Lund dealer installed the Drotto on my trailer so perhaps there is an issue with the installation and I may investigate that this summer. Also, the U-bolt/loop on my boat was too small to house the safety chain hook, the winch strap hook and the Drotto latch so I had to drop the size of the safety chain hook to make room for the Drotto latch.

@@RDO156 i love it! The family loves it! Big enough for rough waters yet it isn't overwhelming to haul around by myself. I love it that it's an aluminum boat. Spacious, lots of storage and it's safe on the waters. No issues at all as of now! Been a year since we've owned it!

I've got the same boat as you. Just upgraded electronics to a Helix 7 & 9. Love the Drotto too. My trailer is a roller. One suggestion, disconnect trailer electrical before backing into the water, in case there is a short in the wiring.

To each their own when it comes to launching your boat as long as you're not holding people up and your boat doesn't float off. I typically just back in further than I need to just to get the bunks wet and slick, then pull up far enough where I can step on the trailer tongue, unhook the strap and just push the boat off the trailer to where its almost about to slide off but just barely resting on it while holding the rope. I see a lot of guys try yanking the boat of the trailer with the rope while standing on the dock when they could have it ready to slip off easy, creates more work than needed. Once you get a routine down a solo can launch quicker than a lot of crews, in Southern Wisconsin anyway.

Yes. We had to adjust because the Drotto pushed the boat back just a tiny bit.. We went to a launch to adjust it as needed.

The BEST THING ABOUT A Drotto is that once the boat is locked to the Drotto, it will not move no matter how awful the roads you travel may be. Bow straps stretch and allow the bow to “bounce” when you trailer 800-1,400 miles at a time. Be well.

What if u need to crank the boat in? This seems like it only works if u park the trailer perfectly. Ramp angle water depth change from ramp to ramp. Hard to get it always perfect

You can still crank the boat in too. You still have your strap and winch. This is just an addition to the trailer, it replaces the top roller

I've tried a few times and know what dept the trailer needs to be so i can launch and load up. Usually i back up the trailer until the water level is below the side bunks. I do that at every ramp, regardless of how the ramp is, i can launch the same every time

This is the Crossover, and yes, enough for 2 big guys. If you see my other videos, my brother and i are both up front comfortably. The Impact may be smaller but will have a good amount of room

Front deck on the impact and crossover is not that big. If you want a large front deck on a deep v tin boat look at crestliner fish hawk or alumacraft competitor.

So I have an ulterra and like to just unhook it and hit the breaks and let it slide off. I need the drotto for loading the boat back in the trailer because it slides back off if I don't keep the throttle on and climb off and crank the pully tight. Can you disengage the drotto latch on the ramp before the boat is floating then back up and hit the breaks and let the boat slide?

Yes you can. You can disengage the drotto anytime. Personally, I just don't want to risk the boat sliding off before hitting the water, even if it's unlikely. I like the peace of mind knowing that the drotto is an easy point of contact I can easily release.

You can only release it out of the water IF the bow eye is not all the way forward, touching the back of the Drotto hook. If it's touching, you need to float it to take the pressure off. There is another brand that comes with two types of release levers, and one allows you to release at anytime. I prefer the larger roller and powder coat on the Drotto, but I'm going to try the "Ramp & Clamp" version. I launch a lot with no dock, and need to be able to launch by tying a rope off and back the boat in till it floats off, and pull out. I don't need it to help during the launch, but will be nice while loading.

@@JKVOutdoors I am getting ready to get my retirement boat. My current boat is a 1992 Nitro 160tf. I actually love my boat. I can be home and in my garage in 20 minutes from anywhere on my local lake. The biggest lakes I fish 99% of the time are under 500 acres. That being said I do plan to do much more Great lakes fishing. Also if there were a few things I would improve on. One would be a slightly larger casting deck. and two would be more deep floor space. I don't like a huge casting deck. Not sure what boats fit that without coughing up a small fortune.

I would not walk on the gunnels on crossovers. On my 2014 their is no wood under the gunnels. Only on the bow and toward the back. You are standing on a thin piece of sheet metal. I got mad at my buddy for standing on that middle section fishing.

@@JKVOutdoors It might not be to bad with decent size feet. As far as some of the weight is on the reenforced edges. My buddy was walking back and forth fishing on it. So more weight on the middle section. It just made me nervous long term. That the center of the gunnel might start bending down. As long as you have the drotto. You might as well get the front trailer steps to get in and out of the bow.

Just tie a rope to the boat and let it float, then pull it to the dock. You don't need that guizmo

I've been doing it your way for 35 years and, yes, it works; but this is going to make loading the boat so much easier and quicker. The others sitting in line at the boat launch to launch or retrieve are going to be thanking me for getting my boat out so quickly!
