Hated the idea of owning a X3 anything. One day, my wife convinced me of test driving the M40i, and now she owns one and I very much enjoy driving it. The acceleration makes you feel you're in a sports car. Engine very torquie(sp?), transmission crisp and responsive. Coming from STIs, GT-R, M4CxD, I can really appreciate an SUV that doesn't really feel like your average SUV. To the point that I could not justify spending $30K+ more on the Competition M trim. This is probably the best kept secrete among the SUV market.

After owning several m3 cars and a gtr my wife just got a m40i and this car is NO JOKE. I won’t put a tune on it because it’s already quicker than it needs to be. But I love this car too it’s a wolf in sheeps clothing and it’s not common at all. Good videos

Any more details on the tune? I have a 2019 X3M40I and was considering tuning it as I did my Audis. Just looking for recommendations for a tune wit strong established reliability. How’s has this one been for you ? Assume the dealer doesn’t look kindly to it for warranty repair 😊

Most dealers won't look at it twice. They don't care. MHD is the best tune for simplicity and reliability. Have ran it on all my turbo BMWs, as well as all my buddies and mostly anyone you run into

How much did you have to build up (rpms? and/or time?) before seeing an indicator that launch control was ready?

It's a few seconds. Just go hard on the brakes and wide open throttle and you will see it pop up and realize that the RPM is stopping at a pre-designated RPM. It's obvious when you are in the car doing it

Quick question. I have the X3M40i 2022 LCI edition. Same as the 2021 engine etc, just wondering whether there's a cap on the amount of launch controls you should do before it could start damaging the engine? Is it recommended to use sporadically or rarely, or can I launch it weekly without issues?

In truth, the consensus is kind of wishy washy. Some say BMW limits the ZF8 to about 50 launches, via the transmission programming. That's what some people have seen in the G80 M3/F90 M5 groups. Those in the X3M groups say they have done way over 50 and nothing has changed. So, it's kind of up in there. It might be that programming is changed in the ECU to dim down launches or it may just be nothing at all. BMW doesn't seem to document anything about it

The guys at XHP are the ones to ask. If anything it could just be wear adaptation or something. Remember it's not a true launch control, it's pretty much brake boosting, it's just that the car is expecting it, and I assume they loosen up the TC some to get more RPM? Big thing with torque converter stall like that is the heat buildup

Congratulations on your beautiful car. I'm actually thinking about buying a X3 M40i. One thing I do want to know and see, is the cargo space and how much stuff can you fit inside. Like a demonstration of luggage for example. Please do a video like that. Thanks in advance. Have a nice day.

Two questions, first off how satisfied are you with the MHD tune? I also have a 2019 M40i almost identical to yours white with the same rims haha, also second question you mash the pedal fully on the gas during the launch?

Im not sure about the tune but from what I have heard: Car must be at operating temperature The wheel cannot be turned Sport mode DSC off or in MDM mode Mash the brakes all the way. If you think you are on the brakes as hard as you can be, keep pushing them down. Hit the gas until you feel the click

you don't have him in manual mode manual mode would say M1, at least on mine it says in manual sport mode M1, M2,,.. for each gear. also obligatory to turn traction off?

You're correct. Stumbled over my words. Just slap it to the left, into sport. It will not work in the manual shift mode. And yes, traction has to be off, though you dont have to do the long hold to turn it completely off. Just hit it once

The problem with the 2020+ cars is that the ECU is locked from the factory and requires a tuner to unlock your ECU, before flashing a tune on it. Look into bootmod3 for the tune on yours. They can unlock it and tune it for your B58

No tune is undetectable. Dealers can even see if you have been using plug and plays

Curious.. is the launch control locked on the X3? Was told i need to bring it to BMW to unlock the launch control. Can anyone confirm ?

Nope, it's there from the factory. Nothing special needs to be done. What do you drive?
