Here I show you how to level a field using a harley rake while ensuring you don't have to replant the entire field. This has turned out to be a better option than plowing, discing, or rototilling the entire field.
I have found that my harley rake is one of my favorite implements. If you've never ran a harley rake on the 3pt of a tractor, go rent one.

I know I'm a year late, but thanks for posting this! There isn't a better demonstration/explanation on KZfaq on how to correctly use a 3 pt Harley Rake. Now I just have to find one for myself

Glad to see this video, I ordered a rake but not in yet…planning on using it on my yard this fall and wanted to try keeping some of the turf. Think I need to get the hydraulic top link ordered.

This is a great way to level areas without removing all of the turf. In order to do so you won’t be able to let it chew too much at a time. Take light passes to let it remove some of the soil, drop it in the low spots, and then give it a break to let the turf grow. Then you can go over it again and again. A hydraulic top link helps make everything so much easier by using that to adjust aggressiveness on the fly.

@@JaredsShop Finally got mine setup, the rake came in a while back but was missing the gearbox shield so had to wait on parts. I bought the Frontier but looking at your thumbnail it appears to be nearly identical. I ran it over some trenches that had been dug but never settled back down, worked great for that. I still have a bit more work to get things leveled out before seeding. I ordered a hydraulic toplink from Tractor Supply which seemed to be the best price and it came in but I only used it to hook up to the power rake last night as I just used it for ballast while I moved dirt around with the loader. Hopefully get this section prepped by Sunday so I can get seed down, getting late in the season. I still want to try it on the rest of the lawn and just overseed a bit but focused on the trenched area first, it's about 10k sq ft so a good play run to get used to the rake. Hope to see another video to see what success you have had on leveling.

@@michaelprichard3258 Glad to hear yours came in and you’ve been able to play with it a bit. This is one implement that many brands buy and rebrand as their own. It’s too specialized to manufacture for themselves and it isn’t worth it. They’re pretty amazing at what they do. I haven’t had a chance to use mine much lately. I planned on using it at a recent yard job but it was most bare dirt and I wanted to see how the landscape rake did on that surface so I didn’t even take the Harley rake. I need to purchase a new PTO shaft for mine. I have to be very careful as it’s almost too short. I could tip it back too far to where there is very little to no engagement. I think the previous owner’s tractor must have had shorter 3pt arms. It scares me to use it too much. Hopefully I’ll get that accomplished over the winter. Where are you located? It’s getting late in the season here too.

@@JaredsShop It has a sticker on it about Paladin which I believe makes the Harley brand so probably very similar. I'm near Kansas City MO and locals are telling me to just wait and dormant seed...but I'm going for it. Not sure what I did but a section of my yard makes the tractor bounce up and down. I had the toplink in the float connection of the rake thinking that would help but still came out with washboard. I ended up going perpendicular to it and was able to get it level but the tractor still bounced going across that, probably needed to dig deeper and clean up some lower stuff but didn't want to go that far. After the grass is grown and it still bugs me then I'll be tearing it all out again! lol

@@michaelprichard3258 Yes, paladin is the original manufacturer of the Harley rake. There’s a fine line as to when you can do it. If it’s planted late enough it should take off in spring as long as two things don’t happen. One, it gets too wet and rots. Two, there are enough warm days to make it try and sprout and then be unable to survive cold weather. When dealing with ruts or washboards I have found it best to go at about a 45 angle to them. If you parallel them you risk one wheel riding in a rut and cutting it unlevel. If you run perpendicular the tractor and rake will go up and down with the ruts and may not be able to give you a smooth finished product. I start with the rake barely cutting the high spots and just drive all around letting the dirt fall into the low spots. It’ll immediately start to smooth out. If you try to cut too much at once I find it harder to perform this type of leveling. For me, I haven’t found the float to be very useful. It tends to not do what I want it to do. I run it fixed so I can control the cut. If you have it in float, and the back rake wheels drive up over something, it will pitch the rake forward and cause it to dig more.

Had not seen a Harley Rake in action until your video. Another great video Jared really like your format nice set up then execution. I do have a question regarding forks . Just got the call that my 805 loader is in. Should have been here in October.... EA just notified me grapple and land plane are coming..... Sooooo what weight rating forks would you recommend for L3560 Kubota? Thanks.
@JaredsShop
@JaredsShop 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! The Harley rake is super useful. I hope to have it in more videos in the future. I’d recommend a minimum of 2,000# forks but 3,000# would be even better. It’s not because the tractor can lift that much. It’s because you never know when you may have a load shift to one fork, or may pry something, pull your forks out of a skid only to have one tip get caught. You definitely want a set that’s overrated for the tractor. I’d also recommend 48”. I have 42” and I can’t see the tips. It makes them difficult to use.

Took your advice on the forks. EA tools are top notch 👌 The 60" grapple has worked out as you recommended. Hope all is well with you haven't seen any videos lately so I checked to make sure I was still subscribed as I have others being unsubscribed by you tube . All is good still subscribed. Can you mow this area with a zero turn now after it has been a couple of years? My yard was a horse pasture. We actually tilled and disked it 14 years ago. It has always been a rough ride on the zero turn gravely. No amount of lawn rolling has helped.
@JaredsShop
@JaredsShop Ай бұрын
Yes, you could use a zero turn on this now. Depending on how bad your yard is, you could also add something to smooth it out. Pulverized topsoil, sand, etc. Do a little bit at a time and use a wide flat implement to spread it. I made an 8’ wide yard drag for jobs such as that.

What is your set up for the top link for it to be quick tach compatible?
@JaredsShop
@JaredsShop Жыл бұрын
This is an older harley rake and it will actually fit on the top hook but it’s a bit tight. It fits better with the floating top link adapter. It is basically just two strips of steel with a hole in each end. They’re really mean for use with mowers to the implement will flex independent of the tractor but it also works great to match up to equipment that may not fit the QH perfectly. Here’s another style. amzn.to/3GpRPbp

What did you pay for this rake? I’m looking at a used one now, but the drum that spins doesn’t have those nub’s all over it. It’s got raise ridges that go the length of the drum.
@JaredsShop
@JaredsShop Жыл бұрын
I got lucky and paid $4,500. The one you’re looking at doesn’t work as well as the nub style, in my opinion. It usually has rippers in front that actually dig and the drum then just smooths. It won’t cut like the nub style.

Would you say this would work in an old corn field?
@JaredsShop

Are there still stalks on the land? If so, that will be your challenge. You’ll have to stop and get the stalks out of the way every now and then. Otherwise, yes it’ll work on the dirt.

@@AdamHopkins-sp5jg I’d run a landscape rake over it to gather as much as possible. Then use the Harley rake like I did. It kick up stalk root clumps and rip them out of the ground. You can then gather them and get them out of the way. Once they’re gone, go to town making little cuts like I did.
