In this latest vlog, I explain how you can live in Thailand long term. I often get asked about how I have been able to stay in Thailand for so long. In this video, I explain how to find an apartment, do your banking, the budget you will need to live here, and some visa options to stay long term.
Living in Thailand as an expat is not as difficult as you may think.

I live in Thailand with a retirement visa (over 50). Very good video. I am also with Citibank, now for about 15 years, but they have sold the Thai business to OUB so lets see if that works. I recommend a Thai Bank account, easy for certain payments and QR code payments. Great advice about finding a condo, I did the same thing when I was living in Bangkok.

I came to Thailand for the first time last year without applying for a visa first. I went to Key Visa in Pattaya and paid 57,000 baht (around $1,730 US at the time) for a 12 month volunteer visa, which Darren was able to add 90 days onto since I had just come into the country. No requirements came with it other than the standard 90 reporting to immigration. For renting a condo I'm happy I went through an agent (I used Connerstone, which happens to be right next Key Visa by South Pattaya Big C). Having an agent doesn't cost anything as a renter and it's been very helpful when dealing with any issues that may occur with the condo. For my monthly budget I pay 13,000 baht in rent, around 4,000 in electricity (which seems like a lot), about 150 for water, a minimum of 10,000 goes to massages (including tips), a minimum 15,000 for food (I eat out 3x a day and it's almost always western food), plus miscellaneous expenses like laundry service and toiletries I would guesstimate at around 3,000. So the bare minimum I spend each month is around 45,150 baht or about $1,290 US at the current exchange rate of 35 baht to the dollar. Oh and I bank with Navy Federal Credit Union which refunds my atm fees each month, so I typically take out the max limit whenever I run low on cash and I'm good to go.

@@Roof_Pizza I'll be moving up to Chiang Mai before this visa expires so I'll need to find a good agent up there, but if I can get another one I'm guessing the fee will be similar. The cost is a bit high (but it's cheaper than the elite visa) and for me having retired at 35 and living here long term it's worth it just for the convenience alone.
@BrianBrianMcBrian
@BrianBrianMcBrian 2 жыл бұрын
@@cmonuhorns8888 I haven't left the country since I got it but I was told by the agent if I wanted to leave and come back just to drop by a few days before and he would take care of everything for me. I'll be living in Chiang Mai when it's due to expire and if I can't find an agent up there to get me another one I'll probably look into staying in another country for a few months then come back to get a fresh tourist visa and then figure something out from there.

Nice tip on using the Citi bank credit card. However, I'd still recommend opening up a Thai bank account if you plan on staying long term anyways. Some visas even require it. Being able to use the QR code payment system is also very convenient and can limit the need to carry a lot of cash on you while traveling within Thailand.

At the moment I live with my grandparents and I have no other family to help me so I thought my best decision would be to move out of the country. Visa run, aka Visa exemption: You are only allowed to stay 90 days in a period of 180 days in Thailand. Since stay with exemption is only allowed 30 days you need at least 2 runs to stay 90 days. Staying longer than these 90 days without a visa is not legal, but often possible, but with a risk...

most of visas dont allow you to work- and still require you to have an income or savings. If you get caught working - your visa gets cancelled

I didnt really get what kind of visa you using, you only said what you did in the beginning from what i understand? Im guessing that the youtube thing make so you can stay as you earn money in the country?(!!!) And if so what is the minimum requirements? Like surely there is a minium amount of money lets say 1000$ each month you need to make? Also when it comes to visa runs, from what i heard you can do it... but you are not guaranteed to get inside again, so its really risky if you dont wanna go home and have sold everything there.

I live in both Pattaya-ish (Bang San) and BKK now. If you want to explore islands I say PATTAYA. From there you can take boats to KOH CHANG, KOH LARN, KOH SI-CHANG etc. Even the further away like KOH SAMED (Rayong).
