I was Born in Santiago I live New Jersey now. I travel to Santiago yearly. I asked my aunt's neighbor in DR how would live with 5 Thousand a month pension in DR. He looked at me with eyes wide open and said Like a "KING" 😂.. THIS was Good solid info for anyone looking to move out there. 👍👍

Great content. Planning on moving to Santiago in early June. I have been traveling to Dominican Republic for about two years now. Hopefully we can get together for lunch. Most of the people I know and has established friendship with are living in Sousa. I love the Sou but I can’t live there. When it comes to Sousa I am just a weekend warrior. I may have to book a information session about the in’s and out’s of Santiago…. Thanks R1

SOLID info. I used to live in Puerto Plata city and based on this video the rent seems a LOT lower down in Santiago. I hiiighly doubt you can find an apartment like that one in Puerto Plata for under $400/mo. I paid like $600 and muuuch smaller. His apartment looks like a castle compared to mine. I lived in a nicer Dominican area but not in the tourist area or within 15/20 mins of the beach. If you wanna live in the tourists areas in Puerto Plata city or in Sosua you gonna pay a couple hundred more for a very "basic" place. A place like his would be over $1,000 guaranteed maybe like $1,250. If you live in Santiago and have a car you can get up to Puerto Plata city or Sosua or Cabarete in under 1.5 hours.

That rent is without utilitiy bills and unfurnished correct? so you need to take that into consideration.its just a empty box without anything so it cost a lot to furnish it and pay for all the bills monthly.

Basically, if you work for a company for at least 20 years in New York with a relatively good pension plan, when you retire, you can comfortably live in the Dominican Republic. I happen to be Dominican, and I always wonder how it would be for me to move back when I retire. The question is whether you would like the environment and contemporary culture of Dominicans.

@Nemura People do it all day long. My uncle is a doctor and makes $2000 a month and is living well. If you want to do out partying and drinking in clubs and colmados every day of course it's going to be tuff. Most people in us make around $2200 after taxes and manage to just live fine.

Its hard to do from online when youre not here. many agents practice charging you a fee which can be one months rent, if you dont have direct contact with the owner of the unit it will be hard to avoid, there are reputable agencies though(that may still charge) and facebook groups dedicated to help guide people in the process like yourself.

I'm married to a Dominican but reside in the U.S stuck in a "shop job" mandatory O.T etc etc. The pay is good but the family/life balance isn't. It depends on the area in Santiago it's different from Puerto Plata where I live. Here that might be x4 times or even more. Santiago sure might be a little less expensive especially in housing.

I heard that Santiago is a traditional and conservative city with a more educated population. Compared to other parts of the DR It's a bit wealthier, locals tend to be somewhat elitist, leaning over on to the snobby side and not as open to outsiders. Unless you head over into the poor barrios, breaking into some of their circles, would be a tough shell to crack. Is this true or false?

Pretty much, but a lot of spanish euros from the outside or other spanish countries that love the DR. It's by far in better shape then puerto rico. Whether many will admit it or not it's the Afrodescendientes sangre. De donde eres?
