Bill, you missed some important steps. Under "Rip" there are options which are critical. Choosing the format for the music must match your car device. WMA may not work. MP3 usually works, but you don't discuss that. Furthermore you didn't specify where the files were going...you must designate that the music files will go to your flashdrive.

Hi Steve~ You are a "Lifesaver" (Chicago VII, 1974, dig my handle, I have the vinyl album), you and I look about the same age. Your instructions on how to do this are "spot on", it was easier in that you were working with a Buick, which we just purchased on 11/15/23, your screen in the car is exactly the same as mine. It all worked well, the only issue that I had to figure out was how to label "albums" (which is, of course, how you and I probably label things), but once I got that figured out, well, I already have 7 or 8 CD's loaded into the flash drive, and they ID the album really well. Just so you know, I did this with a throw-away 2GB flash drive to experiment, I will upgrade to one of a larger capacity in due course. I will sort of miss the CD player on this 2017 Buick Encore, but we go with what we got, and I can't say I'm disappointed. Thank you for this post, and Happy Thanksgiving, 2023! But if you put up one of their KZfaq videos against the same song from Chicago, you won't know much of a difference. Go see them if they are in your area, you will not be disappointed. Here's a heads up before doing any ripping. Check the "Rip Settings" and under "Format", make sure it's set at MP3. Then under "Audio Quality", check 256 kbps for best quality sound.

If you want the best possible sound quality, then it's probably flac you should choose. or other lossless format. NOTE a format that your car stereo supports

2021 Trailblazer will only play MP3 tracks. None of my ripped songs transferred with Media Player would play. I needed to convert all of them to MP3 format which was another process entirely. All tracks played without a problem on Mazda and Kia vehicles. Thanks GM for making life a tad more difficult.

Not entirely clear, the play and sync. are fine but the transfer to the USB not clear !

You forgot to show. that you can choose what type of music file it should be before you press rip. for example MP3, WMA and WMA without compression, or FLAC. if you go on regular MP3 and wma can also choose for example 192 khz or 320 khz

After you ripped all the songs to the computer, then you clicked on some stuff on the right hand side of the screen but you didn't show what you were clicking on.

Let's say your listening to a long piece of music - like a symphony. The radio is playing the music from the USB stick. If you turn off the radio - or turn off the car - and then turn it back on again, will the radio remember where the music was when you turned it off? This would be essential in an audiobook or a long symphony or opera. Thanks in advance.

Does not work that way on different cars, I know. As a c.d. enthusiast, I enjoy listening to an album by a artist. Had problems with content on the flash drive. Wouldn't let me set up my play in the cars audio media format!! c.d. players should come as a option, period! I spent too much for my c.d. collection to get rid of and not be able to listen to it. My next car I am getting is gonna be one that has a c.d. player. I'm not streaming something I already own. And saving my phone's battery.

With a GM vehicle you cannot change a selection on a thumbdrive while the vehicle is in motion..... you need to pull over to do it .....the Nanny State at work again......... Do they think pull over to a stop on a busy roadway to change a selection is safe?? You could also use a voice command to change things but this is a hassle because I am not a "techy"...... I guess GM will force me to learn!

It pisses me off that they are getting rid of cds because I liked the art work on the covers and other artist information as well as the image of the artist that made the music. With a usb if youre not familiar with the artist, you dont know who they are or what they look like. Its stupid and just another way for big corporations to keep forcing us to buy electronics and other constant upgrades because they only care about money.

Sorry, I am not going to copy 40-50 cds on USB. Besides my computers no longer have CD drives. Installing a car CD player is much easier.

Format USB Flashdrive to FAT32 not to NTFS!! almost every vehicle plays MP3 format. That is the safe bet.
