I think accepting yourself is the sole key in being confident, or at least, comfortable in our skin. How to accept ourselves? Building relastic values towards our appearance! I'm glad Haley has covered it all, and I hope the message reaches out to more people. Years it takes, but this is the least we can do to be so kind with ourselves

I feel this way a lot too. I've just really tried to find skincare that evens out my skin and soothes and calms my acne while treating it well so that isn't the cause of me not feeling comfortable in my skin. But even so, most people are not looking at your acne, they're looking at you. When my friends had really bad flare ups and inflammation, I would notice at first but I wouldn't focus on that. I would look at their overall self. Their eyes, their smile, their expressions. I would never just stare at their acne. And it never made them look less appealing in my opinion, although we all would love clear skin, haha. Just keep looking at your acne and thinking it's okay. It's just a wound and it will heal. It doesn't make me less valuable or less beautiful. Those who love me will see past it so I should do the same. 💕

I have long struggled with nitpicking my facial features so much that it catapulted me into a very unhealthy relationship with makeup during my teenage years. Now that I'm already in my 20s, I'm trying to be more generous towards myself. Thank you so much for the reminders and tips! ❤

THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video!! I LOVED that your 3 tips didn’t include any products or changing your appearances, but changing your mindset. You’re my favourite beauty channel. This is such a nice video, Haley. I loved it. Everything you said are things that I've been noticing throughout the years, since I've been on a similar journey, and couldn't agree more. I'd just like to add that taking better care of my skin helped a lot as well and I had no idea that the simple fact of having properly moisturised skin could change someone's appearance so much.

Omg!!!! I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS MY WHOLE LIFE!!! The confidence wasn’t there as a teenager but it’s defs here now!! However some people will still treat you different if you aren’t dressed up such as - telling me to wear makeup if I “want to keep the job” (my manager said this to me once lmao but I quit soon after) - people telling me I look tired - people also treat you like you don’t care about yourself BUT REGARDLESS!!! I love love love being comfortable with myself and ofc some days I still do wear makeup such as for weddings and all that but I’m glad I get to do what makes me comfortable

Hi Haley, i just want to say thank you so much because of you, this year, i can get away from staying up late and it has become my habit to sleep early & put my phone away from me and replace it with book. The healthy routine that you shared made me feel better and my life has become more organized since i followed like you did, it's just feel so good and i feel healthier too. And i finally can feel enough and comfortable with myself. I'm proud of me, ngl (ps: i'm proud of u tooㅎㅎ) That's one of the best achievement in my life because i struggled for a really long time to accept myself. Thank you so much for existing and sharing your insight and positivity, Haley. You are such a good influence in being a part of the journey of me finding the true comfort feeling with myself. Have a gorgeous day as gorgeous as you, Haley! You're such a kind person, and i hope your day always filled with the kind of thing that is kind to you ♡ 진짜 사랑해여 헤일리 언니

Really appreciated this video! Thank you! It came in great timing for me! I don't usually wear make up, but these days I have been wondering if I should starting use it. Not that I want to but because when I look around everyone's using it and I kinda feel like that because I don't use it I don't look so 'well put together' as the others, but this video made realize and reminded me of why I don't use make up, so thank you so much! And it's really good to see a youtuber talking about this and it makes me happy to see you feeling confident in your skin without makeup! Sending a lot of love 🥰

THANK YOU SO MUCH for this! I've recently seen your channel so now I've subscribed. I still have a long way to go. And I agree with a particular point, most of the time childhood trauma affects us later on in life and accepting that fact instead of being in denial is one step to setting a better value on ourselves. I did some self reflection, and I think finding a good support system (whether friends or community) should help in the recovery process. Of course, therapy as well lol but maybe when I can afford it- I am still a student :( But anyway, I'm glad this was posted! BTW the little doodles were really cute and interesting! 💗 ✨

During high school and uni time there wasn't a single day I could walk 5 steps from home without makeup, and back in the early 2000's skincare wasn't a thing at all. Acnes and dryness were frequent visitors. And so was my super low self-esteem . After graduating I just got.. lazy because I had to wake up early to go to work. I decided to go barefaced to work one day to see how people would judge me, then I realized nobody gave a damn hahaha. That moment really changed my entire world. I got more and more comfortable with the no-make up concept. I do put on sunscreen and lipstick though - but that's about it. And I'll glam up occasionally or when I feel like it. With proper skincare and haircare routine my skin and hair are 10x healthier than years ago, and the best part is not spending a fortune on something that was programmed to make us lose confidence in our own beauty, plus liking yourself just for being yourself.

I am still struggling with acne and I’m 26. I am extremely self-conscious and what sucks is that I know how I can fix it, yet it’s really hard to. It’s all about having good habits, a good schedule so you have time to feel more relaxed and in control of yourself vs cutting corners so that you never improve.

The eyebrow thing and what’s trendy is so weird... I have naturally thin and sparse eyebrows, and never really did anything to them. In the last few years, facialists etc always scold me with phrases like “oh look who plucked their eyebrows too much around Y2K” (I wasn’t even a teen then!) and tell me I need thicker eyebrows, microblading etc, or to “stop thinning out your eyebrows” 😮 Hey, this is just how they are!

Thank you for focusing on inner aespect, instead of vaseline, brow gel, curling hair and other tricks. I am very insecure about showing my bare face to anyone. I’ve never had full eyebrows - they are barely there, and it’s always been like that. Yet I still relate to the part about eyebrow shaving, except in a way, that the more I try to fill them in or dye them in an unnatural way, the less secure I feel about my face. Let’s not forget to wash our hair and dress nice - not wearing makeup is not about shownig the most unkempt part of yourself, but about feeling good regardless of makeup. I still have hope, that one day I could just chill with my bf or go out into public without wearing any eyebrow pencil, since I feel perfecty fine around my family. It’s all in the head.

! Extremely long comment incoming ! : omg this is my favourite video of yours!! you are my favourite beauty youtuber and the only channel I keep watching for years! I love the message (as always) and I personally think the key to self confidence is accepting your unique self and the way you were born in this universe, on another level we're just star dust and in retrospect I can never get the years back that I hated myself/appearance so deeply but didn't have to at all. I have drained my own energy with the self hatred... I would like to share a very long unnecessarily personal note in case one person has the nerve to read it all and needs a little motivation, an insight on my neverending journey of self-acceptance and self-love plus the 12 colour seasons tip.. Apart from your video and the honestly great tips you gave I had a different journey to somewhat the same goal.. .. I had a very traumatic childhood and my only 'hobby' and coping mechanism was makeup. Buying it, researching it, writing lists, watching all the videos, imagining my 'perfect' kit, keeping up with the trends. Not neccessarily because I didn't like my looks to begin with but to keep my mind distracted when I had to hide in my room. But the trauma, the constant altering of my face (anastasia dip brow and heavy contouring was the peak at that time) and the compliments I only got when I put 'a mask' on contributed to my extremely low self esteem, I NEVER liked my face at all and it was impossible for me to go outside without at least filling in my sparse brows and covering my very dark purple + blue + grey circles. When I was old enough I moved to another country and got together with my now partner of 8 years and started to heal my complex traumas (also dissociating which only fuels confusion with outer appearance) and as a person in general and this also showed in my makeup. My partner, thank the great cosmic mother, prefers my bare face over anything which always confused the sht out of me because I myself didn't like my bare face at all and none of my ex partners ever did too, they somewhat had the trophy wife mindset (re-victimization), very bad for self-esteem too. Then I skipped foundation and the unnecessary steps for everyday normal life and started getting into 'no makeup makeup' / undetectable makeup and not altering my features, and funnily enough your channel also developed into my favourite natural makeup looks. Then I only put makeup on for university and my side jobs. Then covid happened and university was online without webcam and at my side job at that time I was taking the train with a mask on and then I was sitting in a room with 4 people and everyone had their desktop pc in front of them, then I asked myself if I really ''have to''/want to put makeup on for the ~5 minutes a day 4 people can see my bare face because I got used to seeing my bare face at home in the mirror and my conclusion was: hell NO. Then I skipped makeup for a whole year+ and didn't put anything on my face at all for the first time in my life for such a long period of time. Honestly this was like qutting cold turkey because I just happened to 'get to know' my bare/''real'' face and I somehow 'came to terms' with it and my appearance in general. Now that covid is over and masks are 95% over I had to attend a wedding and when I tested my old makeup for that day first because I wasn't quite sure if I was still able to put on makeup anymore... I felt like a clown after applying only a tinted lip balm and a little bit of blush + black mascara (more at pps), it felt weird not seeing my very dark circles (also squid games happened at that time and hoyeon's appearance and her makeup was breathtaking for me and everyone was doing 'boy beat' and dark circle makeup which opened the door for me to be able to somewhat 'like' my dark circles)... but I bought a few different items with a cooler hue (according to my colour season; more at pps) and when I attended that wedding with a no makeup makeup look (tinted lip balm, brownish-black mascara, grey eyeliner smudged into the lashline on the outer third of my upper lid, pink-red blush in ''I'm embarassed / went for a jog after a year of sitting which wasn't a good idea''-spots and brows filled in at the tail) and a long, dark blue maxi dress I felt like a princess and a supermodel in one when in the past after putting on makeup and dressing up I only saw what was wrong / not perfect enough with my look / makeup / me in the mirror or when I felt not beautiful enough while my ''withdrawal'' but didn't care about it. So this also changed my perspective on how I felt after ''dressing up'' or when not ''dressing up'' at all''. It was a very weird but also a good feeling and I'm thankful for my accidental-1-year-makeup-withdrawal because the aftermath of it is not that I'm necessarily ''confident'' but that I just got used to my face and don't see the point anymore in putting makeup on ''for my environment'', ''because I have to'',''so that people don't think I'm ill'',''so they don't stare at my pimples''.. when e.g. my partner doesn't have to because he's a man? He can go outside with a monstrous, inflamed zit in the middle of his forehead and extreme dark circles, why can't I go outside with the face I was born with? This defiant mood of mine lead to experiences of mine of our female real estate agent asking me right in the face if I was very sick and needed something or want to sit down and friends of ours to ask me if I'm sad or cried a couple of times but I don't give a f about that anymore, it's on them how they perceive me. And honestly you still get catcalled and stared at and in my personal experience it was the women that suggested there was something wrong with me when I wasn't having makeup on, because we are used to it. We are used to cover the lack of sleep, the huge red zit in the middle of the forehead, to cover the so called ''imperfections'' so we think of it (subconsciously) as wrong and notice this on other people as we're used to scanning (ouselves in the mirror) for the 'wrongness', but it's not imperfections, it's life and you don't owe it to yourself to cover them. It's everyone's personal decision if they want to put on makeup but for me it was important to conclude that I don't owe it to myself. ps: I have hooded, downturned eyes which according to youtube, pinterest, everyone, is the most awful eye shape to have, there really isn't a single video out there about contouring or shading for this eye shape that is not trying to change the shape. I always felt really bad and self conscious about my droopy eyes until concluding I don't want to watch videos like that anymore because it makes me sad that it's suggested I need to change my 'ugly' eye shape and I don't want to change the shape. I haven't paid attention to other eye shapes but I can only imagine that it's not quite different considering the cat eye is in style since ... forever.. pps: I have grey eyes and greyish dark blonde hair and my skin is pale olive and when I put on only a bit of makeup it always looked so obvious but then I stumbled aross the 12 colour seasons. I can recommend to everyone taking a test which season you are because e.g. I am a soft summer which means that I have really low contrast in my features and a grey/cool tint in every colour of mine (hair, eyes, skin) so it means that warm colours will clash with my appearance and will look very off / obvious, whereas I look a thousand times better with blackish-brown mascara and a grey eyeliner smudged into the lashline than a warm brown eyeliner and black mascara, they will clash with my cool colours plus the contrast of the black mascara will look very obvious with my lower contrast features and my grey eyes. --> there are essentialy applicable 'rules' according to your season (colouring + contrast) for everyone that will compliment your features and essentially the way you are looking. ppps: when you look at every stranger there's always at least one feature that can be considered beautiful. Someone might have very beautifully coloured luscious lips, someone might have the most beautiful eye colour you have ever seen or very beautiful full eye lashes, or very beautiful brows or just a very nice bone structure or cute teeth or a beautiful smile. We can't have it all and be perfect in every way but we are all beautiful in ourselves and everyone might find something different is the most beautiful on you because everyone's different and has a different perceipton but that is alos beauty in itself. We can see that 'small' beauty we have in see in ourselves not as fractured from the whole but as whole in another scale.

A lot of Asians and even Spanish people in my family have hooded eyes and when they do their eyes, they don't try to change their eye shape. Sometimes they might "open up their eyes a bit" with a certain technique. But what I like about them is that they do things that compliment their personal eye shape and not try to make it look like someone else's or shame it. Thank you for your experience btw. It made me think that the people around me who love me won't care what I look like without makeup. I would always get a little upset with my sister when she would say that my makeup didn't really make a difference, because I would put effort into it and I felt so much more confident with it. But I should have thanked her that she saw me beautiful regardless without the makeup. That the makeup didn't matter to her because she didn't focus on it. I hope to find a partner that likes my bare face as well so it can help me retrain my brain to see myself the way they see me. My parents and family always called me beautiful growing up but when I started wearing makeup (for my own personal joy because it's one of my creative outlets and very therapeutic and enjoyable for me), when I wouldn't wear makeup, sometimes they would think I kinda looked like a wreck...with my hair undone and no makeup on. And they would vocalize that to me.. So without even knowing, they were further adding on to my insecurities but it was also my fault for wearing makeup all the time. So I think this year I spent more days without wearing makeup or only wearing very natural looks, just to try to make everyone used to seeing me without makeup and still looking pretty. My mom said that hair can really make or break me looking put together. Now if I fix my hair, do my skincare routine, and put earrings on, I feel much more confident in how I look. And don't necessarily feel like I NEED makeup. And that is the goal for me. I don't want to not wear makeup at all because it does make me really inspired and happy. But I want to be okay without it, looking at myself or taking photos and thinking yeah, that's me. I'm pretty.

It's important to take care of your hair, but I really think it's ok to damage it if you are doing it for the right reasons. My confidence went up a lot after dying my hair. It's definitely more damaged now, but I adore my new look so much. It makes me feel put together without having to do anything. It was a decision I made for my hair that wasn't about trying to appease others, I just thought it looked cool! You should try and keep your hair in good condition, but don't worry about it too much if you love styling it or dying it. Sometimes its worth it.

Thanks for advocating on not altering eyebrows. Our eyebrows are God's works. We should be thankful with how they are. Also I heard that plucking is bad because it affects the nerves linked with brain

I've never really plucked my eyebrows or shaved them, but I've always complained about them. They're literally cut off partially at the end and I've never seen anybody with anything like that :( it's been a big insecurity of mine but I don't know how to fix it

For no.2 you can fix it with powdered eyebrow/microblading.

I was here first but it took me an hour to write this because I had a lot to say haha. Here you go! I have always seen makeup as a form of art. It doesn't define you. Your face is like the perfect canvas. It doesn't need any additions to it but it can shape you if you let it do so. It's okay to love makeup it's not a bad thing but don't let it define who you are. Never feel obligated to use makeup. You are beautiful as you are. Learning to love yourself is the most important thing to find inner peace. Don't let others opinion dictate your life. Living life without caring what others think is the best feeling. Listen to your body. A happy body is a healthy body. I myself feel very ugly but I know I am beautiful. I just have to listen to my body and work on myself so that I can be my perfect self. A healthy and a happy person. It's never too late to start working on yourself. You just have to believe and I believe in you!

there is a difference betweenn confidence on how you look and beeing OVER confidence which annoy people. I have a coworker who thinks shes all that but when people I know look at her she more like" I like attention" and overly eveeything (I don't think she looks good and I am a guy) but i gave her props for being confident, just way too much on what she actually is.. Sometimes being confidence enough is good not showing anything flashy. But Over confident and not looking that part is different an unappealing at least in my opinion
