I'm so glad I found this. I just bought a 2016 T250 Dual Sport with 750 miles and extra set of tires for $1100. One owner! But I can only touch the balls of my feet both at the same time. I was hoping they had a lowering kit, but I don't find any such thing. This might help me just as much. Happy to find someone has done this.

Great video. I added a nicer rear suspension to my crf300l and it has raised the seat height to just sightly out of my comfort zone. I'll be doing this instead of getting the lowering link for the reasons you mentioned. Super informative video. Thank you!

Nice video. Yeah I noticed when I did it, that it’s not going to mold perfectly at the top bend towards the horizontal because so much was cut out. However another poster pointed out heating it up presumably with a heat gun might help stretching so you can better staple that bend area better. Honestly I’ll probably just leave it as you stated I’m not going to be sitting on that bend. I did this on my Yamaha 2001 250 seat.

I'm about 5'9 and a half. I have a YZ 125 and it's quite tall for me, but I managed to use it as time goes by. I have 1 foot flat on one side and 1/2 of both of my feet when I try to stand on both of my legs. Yz 125 is a quite tall bike but i haven't tried trimming the seat yet. I know there's a lot of riders who are shorter than me like 5'5" - 5'7" but they can handle a 36-38 inches seat height dirt bike.

I'm about to do this to a 150 cc scooter seat. I need the ability to gain height but i don't want to re-do the shape of the seat cover cus thats a pain and I don't want to have to sew it. My plan is to remove the amount of foam I need and to replace it with some really soft foam that will easily deform when I sit on the seat but spring back up to keep the contour of the upholstery. :-) ( wish me Luck! LOL)

@@BrokenSprocket Thanks. It was a roaring success once I figured out the best way to get the staples out. Hard to get a screwdriver under them and a staple puller didn't work because many staples were near a curve. Fastest way was using a small pen knife to get under them and pry up. This released one side and the rest of the staple was easily pulled out with pliers.

@@DivergentDroid what soft foam did you use? How did you attach it to the denser stuff below? Need pics! Do you have an Insta?
@DivergentDroid
@DivergentDroid 2 жыл бұрын
@@michelleseguin3863 Chances are your seat will be a little different than mine. I used some foam made to be used in chairs or other upholstery bought from Walmart, because I had it lying around. I'm 5'3 with a 27 inch inseam. The stock seat height was 28 inches. My foam was circular, about an inch thick and about a foot and a half in diameter. I had to remove the seat from the bike completely. My seat is big enough for two people, the driver and a rider. After taking out some staples, I simply pulled up the seat cover half way to expose where I sat in front and used a knife to cut that section of foam away, leaving the passenger seat area in the back. I just made one cut to remove this piece as to not tear it up in case I had to reuse it. I had to cut the new softer foam to make it fit. To connect it, I just duct taped it to the stiffer back passenger foam I had left on the bike. This held it in place while I then duct tapped all the foam to the plastic seat frame the foam sat on top of. I suppose you could glue it instead but I opted not to in case I made a mistake or would need to re-do it in the future. Last I replaced the cover and duck tapped it down because I could not put staples back in it, as the plastic seat frame was too thick. This got me about a good inch lower than the stock foam they used which would not compress. I'll try to make a video later tonight if I'm able to. If I do, I'll reply back letting you know. - another thing that helped me.. buy shoes with tall souls and to get even more height out of the shoes use thick as you can stand inserts. I could not afford expensive motorcycle shoes with ankle protectors added, heck I couldn't even find them in my size. (small foot) I bought Brahma brand steel toe work boots that are made of leather and have a good amount of leather in the ankle area. These have a good inch tall souls. I then used gel inserts to get a little more height. Between the seat modification and the shoes, I can easily reach the ground but cannot flat foot both feet. I get about half my feet down mostly on the balls of my feet but thats better than tip-toe. If I had modified the plastic seat frame itself I could have gotten more space but I didn't want to take the chance on destroying the frame. My scooter came from China and I'd have a lot of trouble getting a replacement frame. Keep in mind, your seat may be made totally different then mine. I hope this helps and if I get to make the video, I'll let you know.

2 inches minus the compression of the foam with a person sitting on it about 1 "true" inch differance rite ?
@DivergentDroid
@DivergentDroid 3 жыл бұрын
I suppose that would depend on type of foam and weight of rider. I suggest cut off Half the amount you Think you need then test it. I'm replacing my cut off foam with really soft foam that will compress but allow me to keep the shape of the seat cover without sewing.
