The video and instructions were quick and efficient just like how you lube your switches! Im completely new to keyboards and have been watching a lot of videos. Maintenance for custom keyboards can seem really overwhelming to newcomers. This video was very helpful and definitely took away some of that anxiety. I originally wanted 75 or 80% keyboard. But now I think 65 is a better choice.

I think a lot of those videos focus on the "right" way of lubing a linear or tactile switch. for me, I wanted to make a video that could apply to everyone and their sound/feel tastes, even the specific switch they are lubing. It's all about that preference. Thanks for the kind feedback!

love the haircut! That length looks really nice I personally only focus on the bottom housing regardless of the switch, and usually I don't even bother with the stem (aside from maybe the stem pole). IMO the only bits that need lubing are the stem rails and the leaf so you don't get any leaf ping (and springs too ig), but it's all about preference :)

You're not wrong - there are a few sets of switches i've done this to. Especially the higher end switches, i don't feel that they need the stem lube most of the time.

The PSA at the end helped me ease my worries. I just got into custom keyboards and recently lubricated my switches (KTT Kang Whites). I was worried I may have applied less lube cuz I only lubricated the springs, bottom housing, only the two protruding sides of the stem and left the top housing as it is. It still sounded good and felt really smooth. But I was worried that I may have been missing out on certain aspects of the switch for not following a certain way. Thank you for this video! Got a sub from me!
@ceebus
@ceebus 2 жыл бұрын
what's your opinion on only lubing the springs and slightly lubing a bit more on the stems to compensate for the housing? this method is done by Badseed Tech who got it from Andy V Nguyen, and it seems to be a decent method as long as the stock switch is decently smooth. I've tried it on my akko jelly pink switches, and it seems to work well.

Regarding human assembly line; this is one of the first implementation of functional parallelism. If you are two or more crazies into this you could exploit functional parallelism; e.g. one person is opening switches, one person is mounting them into the lube station, etc. for small amounts of keys like a single keyboard you probably won’t fully experience of functional parallelism wildly increases throughout (large workloads and well optimized work pipeline is required for best throughout) but eh, you’ll learn about work optimization and hopefully have fun :) personally I’m in lazy gang and still prefer my switches to come pre-lubed. And thanks for great content!

What I do is I lube part by part. I bag lube the spring with Krytox GPL 105, then I set it aside. Next is either I go with bottom housing then top housing, vice versa. after the bottom and top is done, I keep them in a container with lid so dust will not get on the lube. If I feel tired after, I do the stem the following day. As much as possible, I try to keep the process linear. If you are really feeling lazy, you can just bag lube the spring and lube the stem.

My longest lubing session was my first time ever, I was lubing some shitty redragon browns, they were scratchy af and some had missing legs on the stems, and that's the reason they double click so much, I was lubing them with dielectric grease, it took me 2 days around 4h to 5h a day, because it's really hard to not over lube with thick grases, so I applied lube and spent a good time taking excess lube off...

I personally don't lube my tactile switches unless they feel scratchy. Some unlubed tactiles sound "chalky" and that's the sound I'm aiming for. Audible scratchiness without the rough typing experience. I'm on the fence against linears because I realized 67g springs were too light for me.
@sparktite
@sparktite 9 күн бұрын
OMG i just watched keybored talk about doing something similar. Problem is he said lube the tactile bumps of the leaves specifically, which made no sense because he was using glorious bobas. He got rid of the ping but i would never lube stems bumps or the leaves fronts ever as i wind up with linear switches instead of the tactiles they used to be :( I do lube stem legs but only if theres no silicone on the legs. It seems to be better this way. However i dont lube legs bottoms, just the overlubing the rail part to get it all in there. Anyways thanks for confirming for me that im not crazy lool

very true, but since i already had them apart, i did decide to do the rails. I actually didnt do the stems on that batch (despite what my editing magic made you think haha). the 1st time I lubed my switches, it took me 6 hours for 110 pcs(lubed and filmed). the best part is, I didn't do the research on tactile switch lubing so I just kinda go all out on the legs. Just remember that less is more- better to underlube than overlube. And make sure you block out a few hours to do it

My pro tip for switch lubing is don't do it in one go. Break it up in to smaller batches of 10-30 switches a few nights a week. Makes it much less of a chore.

Here is the method that i've used to lube my switches much faster. Step 1. Get a Girlfriend Step 2. Guilt said GF into helping lube your switches Step 3. Profit.

production line style is definitely the fastest method, but also the most boring. just to break up the monotony, i personally do mini-batches of 25-30 switches at a time

Lubing the switches for a full sized keyboard was borderline traumatic. Do not recommend. Lubing has never been the same.

@@coleydotmp4 ooooooooooooo get a Planck. Even if it doesn't click, you suddenly have the Rolls Royce of macro pads

@@JoNoEe hmm looking into it now. Do you like the ortho boards??
@JoNoEe
@JoNoEe 2 жыл бұрын
@@coleydotmp4 I do! I think their ergonomic benefits are exaggerated, but they feel incredibly natural once you get used to them (especially when gaming). In the case of the Planck, it lets them fit more keys into a 40% form factor than usual, giving you arrow keys without having to map semicolon to a layer. If you're willing to adapt your muscle memory to ortho, the Planck is a fantastic entry into 40s.
