Nice info! Thanks for creating and sharing. I’ll add that when my brakes get squeaky I like to generously apply the silicone lube or the white lithium and when the car eventually stops there’s no more squeaks!

I was working in gas stations doing oil change and lube jobs back in the 60's and 70's, the chassis lube was accomplished with a spray bottle of lubricant mixed with water. Indian Head Brand lube comes to mind, do not know what was in it but it was soapy to feel. It did not endure long, hence the reason cars had frequent lube service. I favor a material today known as Murphys Oil soap, it is kind to all materials, does a wonderful softening and leaves a residue which I believe acts as a lubricant to rubber on steel, but it does not last a long time either. The good thing about water based lubes is that they tend NOT to collect dust and dirt.

Great video. I like to clean off the CV joint boots and tie rod boots and then spray them with rubber/plastic protectant (STP or Armorall) when I'm under the vehicle changing oil to keep them softened up so they don't get brittle, crack, release the grease inside and then lead to an expensive CV joint failure down the road.

All the older American cars use to have servicable ball joints and tie rod ends that you could attach a grease gun to and fill up, now everything is built to be replaced instead of serviced unfortunately

I use 303 Protectant , water based . When I change my oil every 5000 miles and use a mechanics lift . And liberally spray all rubber components to resist drying out and cracking . The propellant in some cans of silicone can be detrimental to rubber . To test , spray it into a styrofoam cup and if cup melts , do not use that brand . Until there is no melting effect on the cup , then use that brand .

Lithium grease is petroleum based and can degrade the rubber therefore doing the opposite of what you want. Ensure you use silicone grease for this job. Lithium for metal on metal and high temp areas.

Does the Silicone spray you are using have petroleum distillates in the ingredients? If so, then the petroleum will eventually ruin any rubber bushings you have treated.
@Marlon_J
@Marlon_J 2 жыл бұрын
The silicone ones don't use petroleum. They actually have properties that recondition the bushings.

If you look at the CRC datasheets on their silicone sprays, you'll see they're petroleum based. Which is said to eat rubber. Correct me if I'm wrong
@Sci-Mon1

If that’s true, that makes this product useless because the main reason to go for silicone spray is cause it shouldn’t destroy rubber.

Yeah, a lot of those products have MSDS sheets that say they are petroleum based or don't even have any silicone in them at all. It's all so shady.

@SirD31V1D
@SirD31V1D Жыл бұрын
Lithium Grease is based in petroleum and it's use to apply on metal-metal contact, if you apply lithium grease, the petroleum will damage plastic/rubber materials. Now, the one used in the video is base in Silicone, you can apply Silicone grease in parts that have rubber without problems and also metal-metal (but it won't last as long as lithium grease in metal-metal).
