Wow. I'm a 5' woman. I took off both doors to clean and lubricate, and had no idea there were rollers on the track! I think when they were installed they forgot to lower them. And I didn't know about the hole for the spray or the screw. This was informative! Thank you so much because now that I'm cleaning everything I can put it back together correctly. :)

I'm confused only by which direction to screw. Counterclockwise lowers the door by retracting the wheels? Clockwise raises the door by extending the wheels? So, LEFT lowers, RIGHT raises. Easier to remember.

Hey Andy, While oiling and cleaning my glass door frames from all of my dirty hand prints I used goo gone and wiped off all the grime. I thought why not use goo gone to clean the grime off the wheels?...then oil? What do you think? Spray it under the door and keep sliding across wiping off the black grime as it comes off the wheels on the tracks?

In a desert climate, especially, oil attracts dirt which gunks up sliding doors and windows. There are dry lubricants designed for this.
@andybarkin45504 жыл бұрын
That's the beauty of the oil I make - Andy's Super Oil. It doesn't attract dirt. I've used it on many doors in Phoenix and it works well there. Thanks for watching!

Thanks Andy! This is exactly what we had at home your video was so helpful. I used Jig A Loo spray Lubricant to lubricate that. But the still squeaks!! Should I lubricate the tracks too? Any recommendation for oil?
@andybarkin45507 жыл бұрын
Hi, Deepal. So glad you liked the video. Of course, I'm biased but I find that my lubricant - Andy's Super Oil - really is the best spray for the job. (a.co/hI7beBQ) Don't bother lubricating the tracks - just make certain they are clean. If you can't find Andy's, try to find another professional-quality spray lube with PTFE (maybe Triflow or one of the LPS products). Thanks for watching!

thank you... do you need to make sure it is balance, do you need to adjust both ends. and balance???
@andybarkin45508 жыл бұрын
Most of the time you can get away with just lubricating and readjusting so that the door is plumb to the frame. That way it closes and latches properly. When you reinstall the door, turn the front and back adjustment screws a similar amount and then tweak them a bit so that the edge of the door is parallel to the edge of the frame. Good luck!

I was wondering if sliding greese is okay to use on flutes putting my foot and head of my flute is starting to get hard my friend suggested sliding greese will that work?
@andybarkin45508 жыл бұрын
Hi Yumi. The experts say that you should NEVER grease a flute. If it is getting hard to put together, then wipe the joints with a soft cloth to clean them and then try again. If they won't go together, then one or both are out of round and you should take it to a repair shop. Best of luck!

I would think if your actually going to go through this much trouble it would be more than prudent to replace the roller mechanism! Maybe even upgrade to a tandem roller assembly?
@andybarkin45504 жыл бұрын
You're right. If they are worn down, it's certainly more prudent to replace them. However, not everyone has a local hardware supplier that carries the proper roller assembly and you might have to replace the window while you wait to obtain the proper replacement parts. Thanks so much for writing in.

We have a lot of wind noise coming in from our sliding glass door due to high winds from a storm. Is there a good and easy way to seal it?
@andybarkin45503 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, Most of the sliding glass doors use strips of weather sealing along the top and bottom channels to stop the airflow you're describing. So, look to see if it's still there. Usually it's soft and a bit "furry." If that seal goes, then the wind can work its way through the gaps. You can find replacement sealant at glass window stores. Hope that helps!

I got a patio door with a center rail & have a hard time getting out the dirt underneath the center rail. Any tips?
@andybarkin4550 Жыл бұрын
The sliding door in the video has a center rail. usually, you can either run a vacuum or blow out the dirt and then wipe down with a clean cloth. That should be "clean enough." Otherwise, try lowering the door fully and removing it (get some help - it's heavy!) by lifting and then angling it out. Hopefully, the vacuum and wipe does the trick. Some people also like to put furniture polish on the cloth they use.

There are no wheels on the top side of the door?
@andybarkin455010 ай бұрын
No. Usually, the top of the door rides in the upper channel. It serves to keep the door upright. The wheels at the bottom of the door take all of the weight and place it on the lower channel's track. Hope that makes sense.
@bcsk8r14 жыл бұрын
Yeah but the door still sounds like junk..... how do I get what seems to sound like the roller is hitting many little potholes sound to go away????
@andybarkin45504 жыл бұрын
If the track is clean and smooth, then the problem is most likely the wheel that rides on the track. Pull the door off (like in the video) and check out that small roller. You can buy replacements for most sliding glass doors. And make certain to lubricate the assemly. Best of luck!
@bcsk8r14 жыл бұрын
You were right all I had to do was adjust the wheel height and clean the track and lube the adjusters and the track sounds like a whisper now. Thank you so much

Ok so now the wd40 doesn’t like the below freezing temperatures in north Virginia. Any suggestions on an oil or lubricant that withstands 5 degrees F ????? I scraped the track and cleaned with paper towels. Only lube I’ve used is wd 40.... but after 3 nights of freezing temp my door is actually jamming and bucking up as I pull open.... Andy’s super oil dot com maybe????
@andybarkin45504 жыл бұрын
@@bcsk8r1 I've never thought of using WD-40 as a lubricant. Most of the professionals I know use it only as a cleaner. It's a convenient solvent; that's why the company promotes it for taking crayon out of carpet. But as a lube? It's got a bit of light mineral oil but nothing speial. I'd suggest Andy's Super Oil, but of course I'm biased!
@michaelallen6208 Жыл бұрын
WRONG! If you use lube! It will cause the rollers to slide along the track, not Roll like they are meant to. And most rollers come pre greased, so if they are not rolling no more, you need to replace them.
@Icanfixstuff4 жыл бұрын
That's cleaning not lubricating
@andybarkin45504 жыл бұрын
Actually, it's both. A dirty track is usually the biggest culprit when sliding doors won't slide, but lubricating the rollers and the height adjuster really helps. Thanks for your comment!
@Gokizzmass7 жыл бұрын
that wont help if the roller bearings are shot like in this video, replacing the rollers is the way to go.
@andybarkin45507 жыл бұрын
I agree, but the point was really more about lubricating the wheels. Those rollers were shot and the new rollers made a huge difference, though the old ones were acceptable once they we were cleaned and lubed. Thanks for the keen eyes!!
