I am glad you showed this. A couple little hints doing it this way. First, I always match my bobbin thread to the backing color. You can barely see that stitching then. Second, once it is sewn on to the back and you are pressing it to the front, I use Elmer's school glue to tack it all down, pressing it to dry the glue. That way, you can sew like a wild woman because it is already in place. It will wash out! Thanks for all you do! We appreciate you SEW MUCH!

THANK YOU! Thank you! I have been working & procrastinating on a very large t-shirt quilt for my granddaughter this past year. Normally I hand stitch my bindings, but this double sided quilt ended up 130x110 and hand binding would have taken all night. So I used your method & had it done in 3 hours. It’s not perfect but it is done & I am not ashamed of my efforts. I think I will continue with this new skill & use it again soon!

Thank you so much for this, and ALL your tutorials Laura. I dislike "waffle" when I'm trying to learn and you always stay on point with the clearest, most concise and easy-to-follow directions. Yours are the best camera shots too! I'm making a baby shower quilt for a young relative and was worried by the prospect of binding its edges - not any more though 😊. Thank you for all the "enabling" videos you bring to the beginners, the experienced, the young and the not-so-young. You are wonderful Laura, and very much admired and appreciated: Thanks for everything. Best wishes, Marion in the UK.

I've been following your channel for several years and enjoyed it very much. I have decided I want to "improve" on my quilting projects and have watched at least 10 different binding videos. Yours gave more tips and the why I'm doing it this way, it's always good to know why you do something a certain way. Most of the others only tell you the why on a few things if any at all. Thank you so much for explaining the why for us so that we can understand the process of what we're doing. Thanks and Love your channel!

Thank you for the information on machine binding. I have been machine binding all of my quilts for several months now and enjoy the process. To me machine binding is just so much more sturdy, you don't hear the threads popping when you're pulling on your quilt like you do with hand binding. The quilts I make are all utility quilts and and all of them get a lot of usage so the machine binding is the best way to go for me. I was interested in where you did the pins at the corners as I have not done that. It is a problem area and I can't wait to give it a try.

Hi Laura, thanks for this very good tutorial. Very clear and easy to follow. I also love binding a quilt in the "traditional " way, but have also thought how much quicker it would be to machine bind too. Will certainly be referring to this when the time comes. I don't have quite the same foot as you were using - I have a Janome machine with a dual feed, similar to yours, with a ditch quilting foot that goes on it. I'm thinking I could use that. I'll give it a go anyway. With your excellent tutorial, I'm sure I'll work it out. Thanks again. God bless you ❤️

I want to do it this way because I'm an instant person and hand sewing the binding down is tiresome to me but something always goes wonky. I am definitely going to give your method a go. I really like the beginning and end too, this will be especially helpful when doing a mug rug or other smaller thing. Thank you very much.

Hi Laura. I love your videos. Thank you for this video. I have been quilting for 3 years now, but binding has been hard for me, even though I have got better with my quilting. I used this method on my latest quilt and it was so good to work with! The pressing and the sewing to the back first was the best answer for me. I have tried by sewing on the front first, but that little line would show on the front, asAi could never catch it all and had to finish from the back. Your method works great. I have never learned how to hand sew binding, something I haven’t learned yet and my hand sewing is not great!

I love doing binding by machine. I do think it’s important that using a 2.25” versus a 2.5” is crucial. My only struggle is that I sew on a straight stitch only machine so don’t have the option to perfectly position my needle or to use such specialized feet.
