How To Magnetize a Chimera

In this video I go through how I magnetized my Astra Militarum (mili-what-now?) Chimera. This is a great kit and an iconic model. Pretty straightforward to magnetize as well! Well, except for certain bits...Hopefully this guide is helpful for someone.

With the new Cadia Stands box coming I decided I'd like to start a Guard army and found a Chimera with a good discount so just picked it up, I figured someone would've figured out how to magnetise it and found this video, I'm still learning how to do it so this helps, thanks!

Great inspiration. For the hatch hinge, you could use a 1mm pin from the outside on each side instead of magnets. That would alow it to open whitout risk of falling off. This would also need a smaller hole through those small parts.

Thanks, and that's a great idea! A pin would allow it to actually act like a proper hinge so it could look normal when it's open instead of flipped upside down. May have to give that a try on a future build! If I manage to do so, I'll be sure to throw you a shoutout in a future video for your inspiration!

Now I don’t have any guard (yet) but would the magnetization for a hellhound be similar to this? And would it even be possible or worth it to magnetize track guards?

As far as weapon options, yes I believe the same basic magnetization outline would work for both this or a Hellhound. Haven't magnetized any track guards yet myself, but I'm sure it would be possible! Can't say whether it'd be worth it or not though.

Nice video, BTW why do you have magnets on the tracks at the bottom? I am just magnetizing my first models from Cadia Stands (artillery and sentinel models).

I magnetize the bottoms of all my bases to make for easy transportation (lidded baking trays, old tin boxes, fancy magnetic tray-shelf holders - they all work). But for tanks with no bases, I just drill straight into the tracks so the tanks stick nice and solidly to whatever I'm using as a transportation apparatus.

Hey man! I had some success drilling some tiny holes into the hatch's pins to make a functional hatch to open and close (did this on the russ following your guide), do you have any ideas as to how to maybe mix magnets or this pin method to make the back hatch open-able? Would be cool to "roleplay" The guard actually coming out the back. Would appreciate some ideas!

Do you thing that you could get away with using a magnet and a strip of metal (like from a tin can or something), instead of 2 magnets? It's just that the build strikes me as using an awful lot of them.

You could probably get away with it but the connections wouldn't be as strong. When you're buying these little magnets usually they come in packs that have a lot, so I don't really notice using a lot of them. They're also pretty cheap.
