How to make a simple guitar rack from pvc pipe that can hold four or more stringed instruments. Great for storing many guitars in a small area, and is even portable too!
All pvc pipe cuts:
1” x4
1.5” x5
2.75” x2
3” x 6
4.75” x2
19.5” x3
24” x2
Parts Available on Amazon (these are Amazon Affiliate links; by purchasing from these, I receive a small portion of the revenue at no cost to you):
1/2" PVC: amzn.to/2NfPDHA
PVC Pipe Insulation: amzn.to/3dlf8Sa
1/2" PVC Tee Connector: amzn.to/3dh8kVU
1/2" PVC Elbow Connector: amzn.to/2Bm7TMz
1/2" PVC End Cap: amzn.to/2YfKDc4
Super Glue: amzn.to/2YUVQht
Screw Eyes and Braided Cable: amzn.to/2V2jJCC
I built mine to come to university with me, so it had to be able to be broken down for transportation and reassembled later. It takes up little space in my even smaller room and looks awesome against the wall with all of my main guitars. Let me know if you make one for yourself, and feel free to leave any questions in the comments!
**If any of your guitars have a nitrocellulose finish, I advise NOT to use the foam pipe insulation seen in this video. There is the possibility that the finish reacts with the foam and damages your guitar's finish. Instead, try using a wool cloth to protect the guitar**

3 years later and the rack I made using this tutorial is still going strong. The PVC around the eye hooks is a little warped, but considering it’s been holding 4 guitars (one being a les paul) I would say this is far cry better than spending $80-$100 on the lowest quality guitar rack you can get.

Very Nice Build, I made mine out of PVC as well. The only thing I would add is that 12" sections of rebar are cheap at any hardware store, put lengths of that inside the base pipes before closing. Really secures the base and keeps it planted, especially along the front side that the guitars will be leaning away from.

you can buy a PVC "Cutter." Its a scissor-like tool that you put the pipe in, and pull the handle 2 or 3 times and it cuts right through. for those that dont have a power saw.

i'll surely give this a try! i'll need a rack for maybe 5-6 guitars. which do you think might be a better design? a longer one? or 2-sided? i figure the latter would save more space and probably more rigid. a longer one might need more support in the middle. either way, it will be based on your design!
@NickRehmcontent

Good points.. I think this design would still be plenty stable up to even 8 guitars, but if you have the space--double sided would be a cool new idea to try!

Hello. In my local store, if I take a pvc pipe and fittings of the same diameter, pipe won't stick in without external soldering machine (they told me it needs to be heated up). But on your video you just stick pipe into fittings without any problem. My question: did you use some special fittings that don't require additional tools to be stuck on pipe?
@NickRehmcontent
@NickRehmcontent 5 жыл бұрын
Artur Khayrullin half inch pvc should be able to tightly slot into half inch pvc fittings. Sounds like you might be looking at copper pipe, which does require additional soldering

Polyethylene is inert, but I guess you never really know with nitrocellulose. It'd be simple to drape a wool cloth over the slot where you'd keep your nitrocellulose guitar if it were really a concern

had the same question right now. i guess there are not many guitars with nitro finish. but when you own one you probably know that. yes a cloth put down would be sufficient i guess. one could use old clothing like socks or pullovers and use them to cover and stitch or glue them over the foam. my question would be if the foam gets squished and thin. using this for a longer time could deform it ? any expierience?
