lots of people ask me how i get that 90s rave sound and it all comes down to trying to emulate the sound of late 90s electronic and vgm (good looking records, ps1/ps2, sega saturn, dreamcast, etc.)
however there isn't a lot of tutorials focused on the 90s ambient sound so i thought i'd contribute to help those who are interested in getting into the world of making 90s jungle :]
(without using the blu mar ten jungle jungle pack)
you can get the sounds used in this from my sample pack!

edit:
for those wondering about where the server link is, i decided to remove it out of respect for the main goal of the server which is to keep a focus on 90's jungle and purely so (ie no breakcore or modern/liquid dnb) some new members have derailed it a bit and it now feels different to what the server initially was. my goal isn't to gatekeep, you can still freely join the server, but i don't want to attract any members that just want to join for easy self-promo/shitpost/or to flood the channels. If you're really dedicated to making some jungle i would point to sawteeth's bandcamp for you to join yourself/manually.
thank you for understanding.

hey guys really important message regarding the status of the jungle fatigue server. due to the massive influx of new users all server invites have been closed. This mainly has to do with the fact that many of the new users have derailed the integrity of the server and it now feels different to what it was. There has been an increase of non related topics such as breakcore, shitposting, and in general poor etiquette. please do not email sawteeth or ask questions regarding server invites as I feel terribly responsible for this and I dont want to affect the passionate community he has built. thanks for understanding.

It’s very interesting how Americans and that continent get fighting game vibes from jungle while English/Australian people think of mainly raves and the music itself. It’s interesting as that’s how most Americans probably were introduced to it

Best tutorial on this style i’ve seen. Putting things in mono is something new producers need to know about when trying to recreate any style of music from before last decade. On hardware mixers everything is mono before panning, making something stereo had to be a choice with the healthy effort of either doubling it or copying the signal and making it different somehow. Wish I had stuff like this to watch on youtube when I was a beginner producer.

I personally feel like its okay to try and use a easy to access yet overused sample pack to learn. It might not be the best but everyone isn't always gonna make a great shot first try. As long as one doesn't use Jungle Jungle as a crutch for all of their future, "for real" songs and learn to make some cooler samples.
@mil3sperhour
@mil3sperhour Жыл бұрын
I totally get what you mean, but the thing is jungle jungle isn't a great learning tool either, the samples vary in quality, no labeling of keys and tempos, and they come from already existing tracks. I guess it could help with arrangement but it provides very little inspiration for the actual production and design that goes into making a track.
@mxrgan_

@@mxrgan_ oh yeah for sure those pads are absolutely amazing but the more we use them the more we lose that magic yknow? if anything it encourages me to try to reverse engineer how they made them or do the effort of looking into other music to sample from! :]

@mxrgan_ Жыл бұрын
@@mil3sperhour I completely get that. I just don't know synths (as a novice producer) and I don't seem to send that many pad packs out there so messing around with these could work for me for a while.

@@mil3sperhourdouble edged sword bc it's actually a really great sample pack, but the problem is that it's so overused, but it's name is catchy and is free so, one of the go-to for newbie producers
@mil3sperhour
@mil3sperhour Жыл бұрын
@@yuxanne.i don't think it's a great sample pack at all by default because all the samples are ripped from other jungle tunes. while jungle was built on the idea of sampling, I believe it's quite different when the samples come from the same genre, as opposed to combining different sources to create something new. the sounds in the pack, of course, sound great, but that's only because they come from already great tracks that have been composed, arranged, mixed, and mastered to sound that way. when people treat it like a cymatics pack or a reddit drum kit and use it verbatim, it taints the original song's charm because it was already a jungle track to begin with.
@yuxanne.
@yuxanne. Жыл бұрын
@@mil3sperhour blu mar ten were already using it in that manner already tho, resampling songs from other jungle/dnb tracks was normalized back in the 90s bc lack of resources anyways, unlike today where there's an abundance of resources, if they did it, I don't see why someone today couldn't or shouldn't, so while I get what you mean, it doesn't make any real difference, and if you're really scared of using bare bones jungle jungle breaks, I suppose you could always reprocess the breaks a bit further since, it's not that hard to do, and as far as the pads in the pack go, that bit is a bit more obvious if you use them, personally I wouldn't use premade pads anyways, since I hate being limited to pitching like only 4 different positions on the scale, might as well just make ur own chords etc etc, and tbh I think the real problem is that the people using jungle jungle aren't as creative as they could be, or can't wrap their head around the arrangement style of the two genres, bc it's usually new producers who *just* got introduced to jungle n dnb that use it, and they're probably still figuring out what differentiates those apart from one another, and just end up making a hack job of a jungle track

Not that I will ever show my jungle trax to anyone, but why would that blu mar ten pack be more cringe than jungle warfare or the other stuff you recommend? Isn't it all processed classic breaks anyway? (I'm a noob, that's an actual question). Good stuff btw
@mil3sperhour
@mil3sperhour 2 ай бұрын
it’s more so that the samples sourced on the blu mar ten pack are very processed (due to being ripped straight from songs) that it not only makes it very identifiable but also doesn’t leave much room for the producer to experiment with. this is mostly a common issue with amateur producers which is understandable but I hope to help others skip that stage so they are more encouraged to be creative as opposed to to repeating the same few samples everyone’s heard.

doesn't really matter (other than that maybe the time stretching is better in ableton). i like ableton more because it adheres better to the sound design workflow (resampling, stock fx, racks) they both have the same potential when it comes to making jungle. i don't really like FL's workflow and the amount of setup needed to route and record stuff, but it does have 32 bit plugin support which can be great for using old vsts that might have been used in back then (although you can just use jbridge to do the same in ableton)
