Dude! I have been watching lure making videos for a week, I am so glad I stumbled on you videos. This video is crazy helpful. I live on SSI so I can't afford $25 for a stencil, but I can afford this. Thank you so much!

One tip I learned over making thermo stencils for the past 6 years is I like to add a coat or two (thin coats) to the lure blank before form the stencils. Using a bare blank doesn’t take into account the added thickness of the paint when you’re using the stencils. This can distort your patterns and possibly cause scratches or damage to your bait.

So many videos over simplify and cut corners. Great level of detail, excellent content. 1 question~the BB box. How did you manage to vacuum form through the bbs without them going all over the place?

If your using HDPE it should be solvent resistant it should have no trouble soaking in thinners for over an hour with no effects Plastic Jerry cans are made from HDPE it's surfaces inside and out are florinated in fluorine gas to stop some of the shorter chain hydrocarbons leaking through HDPE The down side to HDPE is the thermal expansion is quite high so it shrinks about 11/2 to 2% or 11/2mm for every 100mm so on longer lures make sure you leave the vacuum on for a while and when storing them keep a lure inside them with clips or they will shrink And rotory tools leave a hairy finish and it dose not sand well either so sharp edge tools are the way to go

Vinyl sheets work as well. The .02 thickness sheet is pliable enough to mold around minnow shaped hard plastic lures, very easily. I use delicate tape to adhere the clear vinyl to the lure. While on the lure, run a heat gun or hair dryer over thr stencil very quick,, maybe three passes quick passes on 350 degrees, to help the stencil form to the shape of the lure Next, draw your design on the vinyl with an ultra fine point permanent marker, cut your pattern out using a very sharp hobby knife. Use one lure as the cutting board, as the hard plastic makes cutting the pattern out much easier. The process of removing the stencil cutout takes the longest time, a steady hand and some patients. Leave the vinyl stencil on the lure for 24 hours to help retain the shape of the minnow while vinyl is cooling. Remove the stencil, trim the delicate tape back so just enough tape is left to stick to the lure. Place the vinyl stencil on the lure you are airbrushing and paint. This type of stenciling is for those who don't want to spend the money on vacuum forming stencils, which the vinyl sheets I used above from Jo-Ann Fabrics, would probably create a better stencil. I haven't tried it yet but I will as soon my vacuum box arrives. Have fun.
