My grandma made a BlackBerry roll, it's just not put in a dish and cooked, but rolled out and baked. It was to die for and now I'm craving it so bad. She didn't finish telling me to get the bucket and go gather the berries and I was already out the door. I miss her so much and her cooking. I've yet to meet anyone that can top it. No offense, Tammy. I am a bit bias, I admit.

When we visited my grandmother in Tennessee during the summer we would pick fresh blackberries and she'd make the most delicious blackberry cobbler and always with home-made vanilla ice cream with the old timey ice cream makers you had crank the handel manually.. all us kids would take turn... Blackberry cobbler always brings back great memories.

Tammy it looks delicious!! You brought back wonderful memories of wild blackberry patches next to our home. My brother's and I would pick the berries and bring them to mom. She would bake us a cobbler similar to yours. Mom cooked with simple ingredients and lots of love. Thanks for the memories!

We don't have many people that make pies from scratch. I'm a old fashioned pastry çook who got her skills of baking from school. My father loved sweets and would buy everything I needed to bake his favorite thing. That was in 1970s and I don't eat much sweets because I have type 2 sugar. Anyone eat my sweets, would get too fat.

If we made sweet dumplings, we drop them into a pot of simmering fruit with the thickening juices. Like a fruit soup. Blueberry or peach 🍑 is our favorite.

That cobbler's making my mouth water. I hope you have enough to share and to ship to the ones who can't come over. (ME!) 😉😂 Fruity cobblers are delish. We used to live on 19 acres. A huge section had blackberries and raspberries that we never planted. I'd easily pick a gallon. I'd make cobblers with them mostly. We also had 2 peach trees, a plum tree and a pecan tree that grew paper shells. Pecans are expensive. Especially when you need a quart of chopped pecans for homemade fruitcake. So, having the tree saved us a lot of money. I miss that old place. Unfortunately, they turned into a subdivision.

I totally agree with eating most desserts at room temp or cold. I can't think of too many things besides maybe an apple dumpling that is good hot when it's sweet, but even the apple dumplings are better the day after.

Yum!!! 😋🤤 Brings back memories of when I was a little girl picking blackberries off the bush and eating that delicious blackberry cobbler. And what we didn't eat, momma n daddy would let us go selling them door to door back in the 70's. Sure couldn't do that now! I think what I love most about you is that you're so comfortable in the kitchen, not pretentious at all. Just a good Ole Southern cook that isn't afraid to make a mistake because then you get to make lemonade outta the lemons. 👍👍

My mother used to make the best blackberry cobbler! She did not put dumplings in hers but made it with a double crust - and yes, the bottom crust did get done! It was not soggy! Not sure how she accomplished that! The top crust she put some type of egg white wash on and sprinkled with a good bit of sugar so that it kind of glazed the top. Then she served it with sweet cream - not whipped, but sweet. And I wish I had her recipe for that, as well! It was oh sooo good! My favorite of all the sweets she ever made!

Looks nommy and bring back memories!! My grandmother would make this and either do dumplings in a pot OR a crusted pie in the oven so this is first time I’ve seen both together. I’d say you’re right girl- she must’ve added milk to her thickener. Now- I recall there being a milky creamy consistency sometimes and I don’t think it’s milk that caused that- I think it’s the dumplings flour leeching into it. Maybe...? Also I get the whole room temperature thing. Yum 😋

I love blackberry cobbler. Momma made the best I've ever eaten. She never put milk in hers. She made her dumplings the day of cobbler making. She just dropped them into her boiling juice and the flour from the dumplings thickened the juice. She would make a lattice crust to top her cobbler. It was always so good right out of the oven. I do like it cold also or room temperature. It's just good stuff! My son makes a delicious one also! Thanks for sharing. We love y'all.. 🥰

Tammy, thought you might like this little story.. The History of 'APRONS' I don't think our kids know what an apron is. The principle use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath because she only had a few. It was also because it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and aprons used less material. But along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven. It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and ...on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears. From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven. When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.. And when the weather was cold, Grandma wrapped it around her arms. Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove. Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron. From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls. In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees. When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds. When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men folk knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner. It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that 'old-time apron' that served so many purposes. Send this to those who would know (and love) the story about Grandma's aprons. REMEMBER: Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool. Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw. They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron. I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron - but love...❤

Tammy, I only use milk for cooking and don't like to buy it and end up throwing some out that doesn't get used. I have started using Gossner shelf stable milk, available as whole, 2% or skim, from Dollar Tree. The containers are just like cartons of broth only it's milk. Once opened, it stays good in refrigerator for a couple of weeks. It's thrifty, healthy and I have turned alot of my friends to using it. It's available at Dollar Tree for $1 per carton. No waste!

This sounds like what I used in Germany! I’d buy it by the case of 1 liter cartons and it could be kept for months. I didn’t know Dollar Tree had it!
@brucewelty7684
@brucewelty7684 3 жыл бұрын
How large is the carton? If it is only a quart you are paying FOUR BUCKS a gallon. I just went into Gossner's site. They are listing the carton size as 8 ounces. That factors out to SIXTEEN bucks a gallon. It is much cheaper to buy a gallon and throw half of it out. It bothers me that it is heated to 280. WOW! If you are concerned about the waste on a gallon, buy it by the quart, you will still save some change on the transaction.

She also told me that if they did t have fresh cows milk (ie: City folk) that was the baby formula they fed their babies with! Add a little water and shake. I couldn’t believe it but it’s true. Very yummy!!! Few helpful tips...... 1. After the berries cook for the 10 minutes, reduce heat. Simmer berries uncovered until liquid reduces to about half. 2. Temper the milk before adding it to the hot pot. Take out about a cup of the hot liquid and slowly add the milk to it... mixing constantly until all in. Then return the mix to boiling pot. No curdling. 3. Try sprinkling sugar on top of the crust before putting it in the oven for a bit of a sweet crunch.

No thanks, I'll stick with my moms, grandma, and great grandmas, and the rest of our friends and family make the recipe in the mountains of east Tn. without dumplings and a lot less liquid in the berries with corn starch to thicken, and the pastry is 1cp milk, 1cp sugar, 1cp flour mixed and just pour it over the blackberries in the baking pan and bake til golden brown. We like our pastry to be sweet, not like a biscuit and definatly not like a pie crust which just makes it a square pie, not a cobbler, lol. We like it hot with ice cream or with butter and/or milk poured in the bowl with it.

Oh my Tammy, this is my favorite desert ever! I've never made one nor have I ever eaten one with dumplings. I'm gonna try to make one, soon. Do you ever put a bottom crust on these or would that be just too much crust because of the dumplings? I love the crust so I know I'll flip over the dumplings. I've gotta look and see if you've made a video with the sweet potato casserole with dumplings. If you haven't already, would you please add it to your request list? I've never eaten a sweet potato casserole with or without dumplings but I love candied yams so I'll probably like that too. Thanks again for posting this! 😘

Hello, Tammy! I truly appreciate your videos and you for taking the time to make them. Question: Can you make a BlackBerry Cobbler using ONLY the juice from the berries? That's the way my Mom made hers because I didn't like the berries. It will be greatly appreciated if you can do a video on the Cobbler without the berries. Thanks, Rachel Pierce

I'm sorry to be the needy kid in class today, I can't find the video on premade biscuit mix. I also can't find self rising flour. Is it 1/2 cup butter to 1 cup flour then would you add 1 tsp of soda or baking powder? Salt/sugar? I plan to make a big container of it.

@@CollardValleyCooks Now that I think about it, I can see now why it wouldn't cook. The ingredients are so wet that the crust would end up a soggy mess. Thanks.
