How To Make a Boho Kimono / Duster From a Thrifted Dress

This is an easy sewing tutorial on how to turn an ordinary old dress into an EXTRAORDINARY boho kimono/duster. We will cut leather fringe, add sewing trims and create flower appliques from a bed sheet and a scarf. Whether you want to jazz up your own wardrobe, or jazz up thrifted items to sell, this channel is for you! Our Dear Ms. Myers: If you want to tell if a fabric is silk or polyester, take a tiny piece and light it on fire. If it smells like burning hair, it is silk. If it melts, it's polyester!😊

It is also the way to check if Fur is real or faux,real Fur smells of hair when burnt and faux will go into a black glob.

There is a huge percentage of clothes (in charity shops) that will never be bought, so I applaud you for creating something beautiful out of items that will more than likely go to landfill. You should be an ambassador for society & the lifestyle we need to adopt for our future! 👏👏

@tmeyers handmade - I can't wait to get started on this project. I love the transformation you created with the dress. Absolutely stunning! What's crazy is I own that exact dress I purchased 5 years ago. I never fully retired it because I love the print and sleeves. What's even crazier is that everything you used to upcycle is very similar to scarves and fringes I've collected and rescued from Goodwill. I need to finish 2 purses, a shirt, and an altered jacket you inspired me to create before I start another project. Thank you so much for sharing your creative ideas and talent.

So love this idea. On the lookout for a dress like this. When I press fusible interfacing, I use parchment paper, so that the interfacing doesn't stick to my pressing cloth.

This is beautiful! I just love watching and learning from you. You make everything look, well, if not completely easy, then certainly do-able. You're a great teacher -- so relaxed. I want to make one! What amazes me, though is your inspiration. When you first started, I was thinking, "Hmm, I don't know about that dress. Hi Tracy, i love the way you choose and place the patches of different fabrics. Somehow, they always look amazing and lift the outfit transformation into something wonderful. I don't usually use them for fine, detailed cutting. Mainly repetitive cutting like strips of lace or for deconstructing heavy materials.🥰
