small tip for anyone making this, if it doesn't have to be low poly you can easy make it smoother and silkier looking by adding a subsurface modifier before and after the solidify modifier. I also personally like to set the solidify off set to 0 so it extends in both directions. Then you can make the edges a little bit sharper to add realism by applying the first subsurface modifier and solidify modifier and adding loop cuts to the edges before applying the second subsurface modifier.

But when i mirror and try move them around they just stay together and stretch out

sorry for the late reply but you have to be in edit mode and select the whole thing by pressing "a" then move them around
