Make a Tea Towel bowl cozy and match all your kitchen linen.
Use when eating a hot bowl of soup or a cold serving of ice cream.
Made with 100% cotton fabric and batting so you can use it in the microwave. ( always keep an eye on it when using the microwave and do not leave unattended)
My tutorial includes extra steps to reduce bulk

This is a great tutorial. The one thing I would stress to people is “ If you are going to put this cozy in the microwave to warm food, then you have to make sure all of your fabrics, thread & batting is 100% cotton. Your batting has to be scrim free. Also, warm in two minute increments so it doesn’t overheat”.

This was good and you definitely went to more trouble re bulk than I do. One year I made a lot of these so I made a chipboard dart template. I cut it to size so that when I place the long edge against the fold, and using a quarter-inch foot, the stitching line lands at 1 inch from the fold. I don't remember for sure, but I think I made it 2.5 inches long. That was for mass assembly with 10-inch precuts. Thanks for sharing. I really appreciate your channel.

Thank you Kay I appreciate YOU! 🙏Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and following up with a comment. Templates are great. Taking that little bit of time to make a template will help you stay accurate and save you so much time. Trimming the seams is definitely just an option. I just like to show how I do things to make it a bit neater and easier if your machine struggles with extra layers. All the best for the new year!
@kcastillo0319

Yes. I found using chipboard made the template thick enough to use as guide for the foot. No marking, just place the template along the fold and stitch next to it. Happy New Year.

Hi Angela. I really like your tutorials and your way of teaching. I really like this style of bowl cozies with the rounded corners. I also enjoyed your Kitchen Towel Boa instructions as well. Thank you so much Linda. They are both good . If you tend to throw your snippers around, go for the plastic one as it is much cheaper. This is a great technique! Thanks for sharing. Do you have a Trimmer By George? The Trimmer By George would work great on this for trimming the batting. ❤

I don’t own one but I also use a right angle piece of metal or plastic to trim as well. Thanks for watching.😊

What needle are you using for the cozy? I don’t have an industrial machine, but I have a high performance plate for the machine (it’s a Janome 6700p). I have 70/11 and 80/12 needles, but can easily get a 90/14 or ballpoint needle if needed.

Sounds easy, but when I went to do it I lost you flipping over the pattern to do the darts on the other side. So I’m doing them separately with the same measurements I did on the one side. Seems like it would be more accurate because folding might not be exact. Thank you.
@NotchesSewing
@NotchesSewing Жыл бұрын
You can do either way. I always try to save time with my methods. It should be perfect if you cut and fold precisely. Thanks for watching😊

Cotton batting is pricy why do you cut a larger piece of batting and then trim it off? I cut both the same size, much less waste. I love the towels you used.
@NotchesSewing
@NotchesSewing 2 жыл бұрын
You can certainly cut the same size. When I make my tutorials, I try to keep in mind the beginner sewer. Having that slightly wider batting makes it just a bit easier to trim. As it’s going to be trimmed anyway, I don’t bother cutting curves for batting. Also having it wider ensures that it will be caught when stitching around. ( if they’re the same, a little bit of shifting may cause it not getting caught,.) Thanks for watching😊. PS- pretty sure I got the tea towels from Kmart or Target.

Your visuals are very good! Here's a question though: What IF the darts DONT match up super precise when the inner & outer shells are nested together? I mean still fit but alignment is a wee bit cattywampus?

@@NotchesSewing* Precision required for selling at a shoppe, right? And selling to friends and on FaceBook? The shoppe owner I spoke w today told me they are very popular and she's looking for a Maker to create some. Her former crafter recently moved out of town, leaving shelf space available. A template might be necessary? ( I can be pretty OCD when I sew) I don't have modern cutting tools. I use 1950's methods. Scissors, sliding gages, fabric washout markers. Minimal Basic Tools. Everything is cut out on top of my ironing board. Only surface I have. But, I've shown my sewing to men who know construction and the first thing they've done is TURN OVER My project TO CHECK CONSTRUCTION & ACCURACY and I've gotten raised eyebrows, big smiles and compliments on attention to finishing detail. 😁 That's what I love about your videos- attention to creating a well executed clean looking item. I am partially blind in my right eye. I have a severe learning disability called Dyscalculia. Symptoms are can't count or sequence things. I tell people "I sew simple things very well. Craftsmanship is paramount to me." Even w my handicapps I WONT quit. Even tho it takes me longer I take the time required to produce highly quality work.

I love precision. Always produce work to be proud of. Especially if you are selling it. I try to drill that into my staff at work. Sometimes no matter how many times you tell someone, perfection is just not part of their make up…….. On the flip side, sewing should be fun and making mistakes is all part of the learning process 😊.

What is batting without scrim?
@NotchesSewing

it’s a binder grid usually made of polyester to hold the fibres together. Best to leave out when microwaving just in case.
