This how I made a cheap above ground pool deep enough to jump and dive into.
If you have any questions about specifics I would be happy to answer them in the comments.
Happy staying cool without huge GHG emissions!

Since I have made this pool the glue that I used has surpassed it's useful life. Check out the video on how I used waterproof tape to repair it.
Happy to share more info if anyone has questions.

We have a pool that looks to be the same as yours. 16 by 31 from Costco. I also have our 9 by 18 from before. We are attempting to do this. We lined the hole with area rugs we got free. I’m having a hard time keeping them from wrinkling. Anyways. Thank you for the video. I’ve watched it 100 times.
@sculptureforasmallplanet
@sculptureforasmallplanet Жыл бұрын
Try using some cord or string to pull the top edges of the deep area liner up. Run them in loops so after the top pool holds it in place you can pull them out. This helps with the wrinkles that are from gravity pulling down the edges. Other wrinkles are just a pain. Hope this helps.

I have been subscribed for a while and also watched the update when the pool sprung a leak. 5-6 years without trouble is not bad. I plan on doing this in a couple of months with the exact same pool size and shape. Can you tell me why you wouldn’t recommend going too much deeper with the deep spot? I was thinking if a 4-5ft deep spot shifted to one end a little more.
@sculptureforasmallplanet
@sculptureforasmallplanet 5 ай бұрын
Hello! Yes, I would be glad to. The deep spot in this pool is about 32” or so making the overall depth of the deepest area 6’6” or so. It is square-ish with walls that are about 45 degree angle. The width is obviously limited by the width of the pool minus that flat spots on the sides that should be about 2’. These flat areas are important because I need an area to walk by the deep spot and more importantly for overall stability of the above ground walls. Everything would get more difficult the deeper you go, glueing together the liner, getting in out during construction, etc. With all that being said and you want to go deeper I would make it longer so one side is slopped at around 25 to 30 degrees while the other 3 sides are closer to 45. As far as positioning to one side there is no problem. Ours is slightly off center because of the layout of the preexisting deck. Hope this helps, and I’ll try to get a video about what I do different done in the next few weeks. Meantime feel free to ask more questions! Thanks,

The footprint is 9x9 but If i can get one of the smaller bestaway or intex ovals or rectangles I want to make it deeper for therapy /exercise and tethered swimming. Where did you get the vinyl liner? MM thickness?

So there is 1 ton of greenhouse gasses in an unground pool? Is this a metric ton?
@sculptureforasmallplanet
@sculptureforasmallplanet Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. I was just using a figure of speech but I did a little research and it turns out that it was fairly accurate. It would take about 7 yards of concrete to make similar size pool. 1 yard of concrete is responsible for about 400 pounds of CO2. 7x400=2800 pounds of CO2. A metric ton is 2204 lbs. Of course there are many variables of transportation, labor, equipment etc that could be debated forever. I know this style pool isn’t for everyone or even a small number of people. So if you’re looking at an traditional in ground but you still want to decrease GHG I would recommend a solar cover and solar heat. I have a video on it. Thanks again and stay cool!

What a great idea! I wonder if you could head-weld the vinyl together. I assume that is how the vinyl is attached at the factory. Also, I wonder how much you could get away with having a deep-er area in the middle of the pool with the vinyl stretching to fill it..... The supports for the perimeter of the pool would still have to be level..... but the center could possibly be a foot deeper without causing problems (maybe).
@sculptureforasmallplanet
@sculptureforasmallplanet Жыл бұрын
Thanks! It’s definitely welded together in the factory. Looks like between two rollers. And yes maybe it could be deeper but if I was to do it over, I wouldn’t make it deeper. It’s deep enough to give a real swimming experience for us. Thanks again!
@endorphinder
@endorphinder Жыл бұрын
@@sculptureforasmallplanet Thanks for the reply.... I agree that your pool is plenty deep for sure! I was just wondering out loud how much depth I could get away with without doing anything to the pool liner. I was wondering if an un-altered pool liner might allow for more depth in the middle of the pool just by stretching. Even if it worked (without breaking) it would only add a little depth.... And so I'm thinking about trying your approach.
@sculptureforasmallplanet
@sculptureforasmallplanet Жыл бұрын
@@endorphinder sounds good. Might want to do some experiments before you put to much time an money into it. My deep spot has about 40 to 45 degree slope. It would be really hard for me to go steeper. Also I have 0 experience with flexible liners so have nothing to offer there. Best,

Hi, I used HH-66 vinyl cement. It works pretty well except that it turns a brownish yellowish color so don’t go to far beyond the lamination. And it doesn’t hold the thin vinyl as well. So the thin dark blue, peace of mind patches, are coming off but all of the thick fake tile pieces are holding tight. As well as the thicker round bottom of the inflatable ring pool. No leaks or anything just that I wouldn’t bother with the cheap thin vinyl if I was going to do it again. Hope this helps. Thanks,

@religionisapoison2413 Жыл бұрын
@@sculptureforasmallplanet actually I've not seen any liner X gunite hybrids. If you look into it in your freetime and find something send me the video title or similar. I imagine there is a way to do something like that... Use the liner for the walls and then beneath the pool you could potentially dig in any manner you want, unless the liner acts as parchment paper against the gunite. I'm looking at buying a house, a big compound of sorts, and we're both remote so the condition of the home is just that it has a deep pool for diving. After a day or two of looking at solutions it's pretty apparent there should be a more affordable solution for a good quality deep in ground pool than what is current.
