Learn how to make a super easy cloak or cape in my latest beginner sewing project - no pattern needed! This cape is the perfect cosplay or costume accessory - it's quick and easy to sew and adds drama to any character. Make it in a velvet fabric like I did for a masquerade or king/queen/prince/princess costume, or use a bright colored fabric for a superhero cape.
It's also perfect for last minute Halloween costumes if you need a last minute costume idea for a costume party or comicon.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
-Fabric of your choice: I used 1 ¾ yards of a velvet fabric (you can use ANY fabric you want for this), but depending on your size and the width of your fabric you may need more or less - follow the steps of seeing how large to cut the cloak and then buy your fabric based on that size to make sure you get enough!
-1.5 yards of 1-2 inch wide ribbon or trim for the tie
-Sewing Machine: this is the machine I use: amzn.to/2HcBk3b *
-Ball Point Needles: these are what I use: amzn.to/3ehIgvi *
-Thread: this is my favorite because it’s strong & durable (I've found its worth buying better quality thread because cheaper thread breaks a lot): amzn.to/2TEiTbr *
-Scissors: this is a great affordable set I’ve had for years: amzn.to/2NMnZBl *
-(Optional) Walking Foot: if you’re using a stretch fabric that sews really wavy, a walking foot can help it sew smoother. Here’s the one I use with my Singer machine: amzn.to/2NkhoxP *
-Pins
-Tape Measure

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:
You'll learn what size to cut the fabric, how to make a casing for a drawstring, and how to hem the raw edges for a finished look. No need for advanced sewing skills, you just need to know how to use your sewing machine and how to sew a straight line and you'll be able to make this easy costume!

I love this tutorial! For a little while now I have been tossing around the idea of sewing myself a cloak to wear out and about on chilly days, but I was having trouble looking for the right video to follow. This is perfect! And you are even using velvet!(I was going to use a dark green or blue velvet for mine) again, thank you so much, this is so helpful and I'm looking forward to making my own.☺💗

Thank you, I’m so glad you liked it and thought it was helpful! 😊 That would be so awesome to make one to wear around! Although I’ve only used this one for a costume so far, I made a different shorter style cape for a tutorial earlier this year and loved wearing it in winter - it was so cozy!! I know a green or blue velvet will be beautiful 😃 I’d love to hear how it turns out when you make it! Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a comment, and happy sewing!!!

May I suggest sewing the ribbon down in the middle of the cape so the ribbon never pulls out? Just make sure you're sewing the middle of the ribbon in the middle of the cape!! Thank you, I plan on making atleast 4 of these for Christmas and I appreciate the simplicity of them!!
